This is probably the third or fourth evolution of a more casual mode that's easier for first time players. I think I've finally landed on something that's pretty intuitive, less overwhelming to learn while still having some fun/different aspects from the roguelike mode.

I've been working on polishing up Overtime - a new mode for Chicken Scratch where the goal is to survive as many days as possible by not making mistakes.

It is indeed! Important to note that kind of feedback is coming in because it does usually mean something is off, even if they can't always articulate the specifics.

It was a mix of it being hard to learn what was happening initially with the fading and the behaviour of the fading feeling weird.

Before the entirely line would fade over time as you were drawing it.

Now, the line breaks into segments over time and the segments fade instead.

Testing is like.. kind of important, apparently.

I ran a playtest recently where players were irked by the fading lines snag. Initially it seemed like a difficulty curve issue, but they mentioned that it felt like there was something wrong with it.

I changed the implementation based on that feedback, and it's so much better.

This is a great song. I wish I'd played katamari damacy - it looked like bizarre fun.
