Synaptic vesicle endocytosis deficits underlie cognitive dysfunction in mouse models of GBA-linked Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies - Nature Communications GBA, a major gene for Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies, is associated with increased risk of developing dementia. Here, we demonstrate that GBA mutations in mice contribute to cognitive deficits through α-synuclein-independent mechanisms that impact synaptic vesicle endocytosis.

Our paper exploring the link between cognitive deficits and GBA mutations in Parkinson's disease is out now in Nature Communications. Congratulations to @vidyadharadj.bsky.social and all of the authors on the success of their hard work! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

On #RareDiseaseDay, we want to recognize patients with Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) and their families. Graduate student Alex Esqueda and recent grad Dr. Sofia Tieze are working to improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of these rare and devastating diseases.
