Amy Goodman and the Art of the Follow-up Question "Steal This Story, Please!", a new documentary about the intrepid Democracy Now! host, streams at this year's Full Frame Documentary Festival.

I spoke with filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin about their new doc, @stealthisstory.bsky.social, which compels us to ask more out of mainstream media & has lots of great archival reels of Amy Goodman chasing powerful people with a microphone.

I was also asked what people can do to support local journalism. Stories by INDY and other local outlets get ripped off constantly by AI aggregators. One thing you can do is read original reporting, share it, and lift up why it matters for news to be produced by actual humans in our communities.

Join The INDY is free to everyone who wants to read in Durham, Raleigh, and across the Triangle. Join the INDY Press Club and help keep it free.

Two people told me they did not know you can contribute to the INDY because we are a free paper. Yes, we are committed to providing free, quality journalism, but it isn't free to produce. If you're in a position to do so, contributions help ensure we can continue that mission 🫶

Character Studies: Champ, the Durham Bulls’ Bat Dog Despite all the game day distractions, the highly trained Durham Bulls bat fetcher never fails to delight fans and demonstrate that he is indeed a very good boy.

Champ, who turns 3 in April, is rarely fazed by the variety of things Michael asks him to retrieve, a list that includes bats, bumpers, balls, and even eggs. “Michael could throw a potato out there,” said Melissa, “and Champ will go get it.”

One Man’s Trash is Another Gull’s Treasure With Wake County’s growing population producing more than their share of garbage, its landfill is expected to be full by 2045. I took a tour, and you should, too.

Newly-elected Durham City Council members are being sworn in at tonight’s meeting. As part of the ceremony, the mayor will select a new mayor pro tem, and a new seating arrangement for the dais.

Here’s my guess as to who goes where.

CM - City Manager.
CA - City Attorney.
