Why would you need a VM to play a game in linux? Most steam games play fine in linux these days.

Probably, but at the same time you might still want a computer that isn't on the bleeding edge of technology, as it often takes a few kernel releases to get the drivers for the newest hardware fully usable.

When I go in to Barnes and Nobles, they seem to only stock the 3rd book of a new series, or old classics 50+ years old. It is so much easier to find the books I want as ebooks.

Personally, I love Slackware. But it is kinda old-fashioned in many ways. My daughter loves Mint. She installed it by herself in high school.

I really don't think there is that much of a difference between the various distros as far as capabilities go. Any modern distro should be able to run Steam and like 90% of the games available there.

Most distros differ on frequency of updates, package formats, default packages installed, etc.

Those folks just want to spread confusion or promote some agenda of their own. Most normal linux-users just call it linux, or the name of their distro.
