What $100 billion in new ICE funding would look like The staggering increase is difficult to process. These numbers will help.

With what Republicans are about to hand to ICE we could instead end school lunch debt, hire enough teachers, and keep the childcare system afloat www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

9. If they were choosing patriotism, we'd be done by now. If they had the votes for Trump fealty, we'd be done by now. Instead, they are floundering, hoping that before this day is out they will find a way to hurt the American people as Daddy has demanded.

This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program. No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress. This is an unambiguous impeachable offense.

In addition to all the other horrible things, Trump's second term is like a Twilight Zone episode where his voters are told they can be as racist as they want except now groceries cost a trillion dollars.

There is an impulse in moments like this to appeal to self-interest. To say: These horrors you are allowing to happen, they will come to your doorstep one day; to repeat the famous phrase about who they came for first and who they'll come for next. But this appeal cannot, in matter of fact, work. If the people well served by a system that condones such butchery ever truly believed the same butchery could one day be inflicted on them, they'd tear the system down tomorrow. And anyway, by the time such a thing happens, the rest of us will already be dead.
No, there is no terrible thing coming for you in some distant future, but know that a terrible thing is happening to you now. You are being asked to kill off a part of you that would otherwise scream in opposition to injustice. You are being asked to dismantle the machinery of a functioning conscience.
Who cares if diplomatic expediency prefers you shrug away the sight of dismembered children? Who cares if great distance from the bloodstained middle allows obliviousness. Forget pity, forget even the dead if you must, but at least fight against the theft of your soul.

One of many moments in Omar El Akkad’s new book, “One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This,” that will stop you in your tracks.

SCOOP: ICE Revoking Students’ Immigration Statuses Without Their or the University’s Knowledge “Never seen something like this,” say university officials about the secret targeting of Middle Eastern students.

SCOOP: The Trump admin appears to be going into a visa database to quietly change students' immigration status. It's coming entirely by surprise — setting students up to be detained without warning.

It's Mahmoud Khalil & Rumeysa Ozturk — on a wider scale.

FDR once bragged to a massive crowd at Madison Square Garden that the richest people in the nation hated him and “I welcome their hatred.”

Just weeks later, he was re-elected with 61% of the vote in a 523-8 blowout in the Electoral College.

Voters *like* politicians who make the right enemies.

We have to talk about the absolutely insane CR the GOP has proposed.

This bill formally abdicates Congressional authority over the budget and allows the Executive to sequester funds for any reason or no reason at all.
