I teamed up with @lizbayleyphysio.bsky.socialย to create this progressive rehab programme for Plantar Heel Pain.ย
We've called it 'LiTHE' (Liz and Tom's Heel Exercises) and it's aimed at active and sporty patients. It's not a recipe though so it's best to adapt it to suit individual needs.

An absolute pleasure to work on this with you Tom! Iโm already thinking about our next project ๐๐ผ
I teamed up with foot & ankle specialist @lizbayleyphysio.bsky.social to created 4 exercise programmes for Plantar Heel Pain. 3 are based on Osborne et al. (2023) where 18 experts devised exercises for PHP. The โLiTHEโ programme is our own creation which fits more closely with S&C principlesโฆ

While the wet foot print test may still have niche uses, its role in general foot posture assessment is very limited. And remember, static foot posture doesnโt predict dynamic function or guarantee injury riskโyour body is far more complex than that!

โฆ there was no room for an insole due to swelling and sensitivity. I customized his shoe by adding podiatry felt inside, creating a tailored "shelf" for extra comfort and support.

That said, the test can occasionally provide insight in specific contexts. For example, I recently used it following a Lisfranc rupture and metatarsal/cuneiform # which resulted in fusion surgery. It helped me assess how and where arch support might be helpful in a swollen, post-op footโฆ

But
* Research has shown static tests donโt reliably predict dynamic foot posture
* Foot posture โ pathology. While foot posture may play a small role in some conditions, it's far less critical to pain and injury than previously thought.
* Injury risk spans all postures

Consent โ
The wet footprint test has long been used to assess foot posture. Historically, it was thought to reveal whether you had "normal," "flat," or "high" arches and to predict potential foot-related issues or which footwear might be โbestโโฆ ๐ซฃ
