On 11 June 2026, I'm running an online intro to early modern legal records, part of The National Archives' Practical Archival Skills Training #TNAPAST workshops. More details can be found via the link. For accompanying on-site workshops, see the below thread www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/past-early...
Welcome!
Huge, impactful, disastrous move by Trump being almost totally ignored or misreported by major news organizations: www.hatchmag.com/articles/tru...
The U.S. Forest Service is closing 57 of its 77 research facilities in 31 states under a reorganization plan announced this week, threatening science that looked at how wildfires, drought, pests and global warming are putting pressure on forests.
‘Vegas hotel meets aerospace bling’: Trump’s presidential library plan is a gaudy, self-glorifying monstrosity
An aerial view of part of the Uni of Liverpool campus in the 1960s, showing demolitions and new buildings.
Do you know of someone who might be interested in doing a #PhD on the urban, architectural and environmental history of the University of Liverpool?
If so could you point them in my direction?
I went on my first forest fire last year and realized something:
Wildfire fighting is an entire world most people never see.
That’s why I wanted Kelly Ramsey—author of Wildfire Days—on the podcast.

Also, just for the historical record, John Trump was not the longest serving professor at MIT. Not even close.
Videos of the depositions of Michael McDonald, Adam Wolfson, and DOGE staffers Justin Fox and Nathan Cavanaugh are available in our playlist at www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
I love that @modernlanguage.bsky.social has posted the depositions of the DOGE bros who gutted the National Endowment for the Humanities. All part of the lawsuit the MLA, AHA, and ACLS have filed against the federal government.
The National Capital Planning Commission is now accepting public comments on Trump's ballroom that dwarfs the White House and is ugly as sin.

"Collins has said she would not oppose the bill because less than 20% of the funding is for ICE. The rest pays for the salaries and operations of the U.S. Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA and other agencies." [from the Portland Press Herald]
Maine Senator Susan Collins said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem informed her that ICE will end the immigration enforcement surge in the state.
Screenshot of text: As was just shared on our church forum, ICE has taken the owner of the Stow Cafe, Max, a beloved community member with five young children. We are pulling together a show of support at noon at the Stow Cafe, which is designed to be Stow Cafe regulars, so if any employees or family members of Max are around, they see familiar faces. We will hold signs of support and leave notes of support, offering to help coordinate and amplify requests for legal support funds, groceries, etc. **If you are a Stow Cafe regular, please join us.** In addition, it's likely we'll be pulling together a protest either at the Cafe or on the common in front of the church tonight or tomorrow, or the weekend, or all. Stay tuned for more information.
an ICE abduction took place in Stow, Massachusetts today, Wednesday January 28. From email from someone directly connected:
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

They’ve only received “more than 30” letters?
Let’s help them out and give them some more feedback, y’all.

On my way to Lewiston for the No ICE protest, but I’ve been watching the breaking news out of Minneapolis, where federal agents have shot and killed another person.
I’ve seen the video and it’s horrific.
This violent occupation has to end. ICE needs to GET OUT of MN and GET OUT of Maine.
The copy edit is done, there is a publication date, and there is a webpage! Soon there will be a cover and, on Amazon and Bookshop, you can even preorder it. Coming September 2026: Max Bond: The Life and Work of the People's Architect.

Sonja Drimmer, Associate Professor of Art History at UMass-Amherst, will talk on “A Grand Larceny: How the AI Industry Steals Our Past to Rob Our Future.” Here, she will discuss how universities and museums have partnered with commercial technology firms like Google, Microsoft, and Meta, which have promised that their AI products will enhance both historical research and accessibility to historical collections. Her talk responds to the question of why universities and museums would work with companies whose products are in many ways obstructive to the mission to educate students and the public at large about history.
If you're near the University of Hartford on February 10, I'd love to see you. Free and open to the public.
