Working in 3D can quickly become a scope creep nightmare. I tried as much as I could to keep things on the downlow and I still ended up spending a long time in Blender (though 70% of that was just not knowing what I was doing!)

I do always sign myself up for more than I can handle at a time, that said. Grand ambitions for fame and glory, but honestly just offering up a good story. I want to do my writing justice—it’s why I started drawing in the first place.

Working on this, it was really obvious how splintered the internet has become for information. Finding what I needed was often a struggle or I’d have to attempt independently. But, we’ve made it in the end, somehow.

But, I’ve definitely grown a lot. I have a much broader spectrum of understanding in working in 3D now that has only continued to grow, and I’ve found a real love for it. That’s one of the great things about trying something new!

Actually doing tutorials, that’s my Achilles heel. I’m easily overstimulated and I can’t watch tutorials in voice chat, but I’m liable to put them off if I don’t have someone egging me to do it. It’s a conundrum that’s been hard to fix!

But Markiplier said it best: part of starting projects is looking at the tasks ahead and deciding that even though you don’t know how to do something, you know you can learn. Developing this debut has been a phenomenal amount of that.

Of course, iteration would go faster were I a dedicated character artist, as it goes with most facets of something like this. The only thing I consider myself professional-grade in is writing, and you can’t exactly debut with just that!

On the topic of iteration. Character Design is very much an iterative process, and my model has been no different. Finding a balance between silhouette, palette, and #vtuber-ness has been a long climb. I've included my starting point - you can see some of my design inspirations!

Detail Preview 2! With Live2D models, you rarely see shoes, but I feel like with #3DVtuber ones you’re way more likely to do so. Fun fact: these boots are the most recent design element, they were previously a heeled boot, which I’ll post as a reply!

One of the pitfalls of being your own #vtuber artist is redoing things endlessly, which is a good part of why it’s taken me this long. But, in spite of that niggle never going away, I’m proud of where the model is, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

My schedule generally makes it difficult to catch the streamers I like, but they were quintessential in finding my vibe. I’ll wholeheartedly say my oshis are aicandii and Mori Calliope—perhaps that gives you a little taste of what’s to come?

general tip for 3D #vtubers especially those using VRM/MToon:

Check your anti-aliasing settings and set them as high as possible. This goes for EVERY program you make content in-- VRoid Editor, Warudo, VSF.

It'll give you a smoother output and looks way more professional.

This debut has been a labour of love, and a big part of said love is the games that were foundational for me. From Final Fantasy to Resident Evil, I wanted to maintain a connection to my roots, even when not playing them on stream.

trying to figure out follow/sub goals for the debut event and going aaaaa

Three years is a long time to be working on a project, and I’m excited to finally present it to others. It’s not three years of dedicated work, but it is three years of brain worm, and soon it’ll be wriggling for everybody (ew). #VTUBER

With the date official, it’s also time to really jump in and start promoting the event. I’m actually both excited and nervous. I had always wanted to come back to streaming after leaving in 2021, and I started design work in 2023…yeah.
