They didn’t even have the decency to use an LLM to make sure it was convolved with half a dozen other GBA emulators first?!

Open Sores - an essay on how programmers spent decades building a culture of open collaboration, and how they're being punished for it.
There’s input lag on the Jag? I know it’s still the same version that shipped in Atari 50, but I wasn’t involved in integrating anything or providing emulator updates this time. I can think of some easy changes, but how bad (in frames or milliseconds) is it compared to hardware?
It made my pecker flutter like a pigeon having a heart attack.

Merry Christmas, new versions of BigPEmu and BigInstinct are out now!
There's a lot of new functionality in both releases, including support for BigMaster. This is a brand new multiplayer/matchmaking service!
This is why I haven’t managed to update any of my emulation projects over the last few months. If I can make it through the next 6-7 months alive and hang onto my current productivity/constitution, though, I expect to release some cool shit in 7-9 months. Bear with me!
Spent September living in a Ronald McDonald House while my daughter was in the hospital, spent last month trying to help her cope with now being legally blind and having new mobility issues. Been buried in contract work all the while, which has been exceptionally stressful!
Pretty sure it’s just making it harder for me to live my life while offering no relief from my relentless awareness of the world around me. I think I need another few dozen infections, or maybe just a good old fashioned lobotomy.
Time will destroy everything, but it destroys those who give a shit even faster. Good bye, my friend.
There are a bunch of things you can try, many of which are detailed here: www.richwhitehouse.com/jaguar/index...
I’d bet you could get byte-perfect data back out if you’re willing to accept a relatively low baud rate. Problem is getting the bird to just repeat small segments when you detect an error, so you don’t have to repeat the whole sequence. We can’t get a BMI involved or it’s cheating!
Yeah, I’ve found that prior to the PSX era, source is often lost even for huge first party IP titles where you’d think they’d have known better. It’s way worse than I ever would’ve thought before I started working professionally in that domain.
The PNG makes it sound like he’s devised a way to fully preserve the Huffman/LZ-encoded bits on both sides of the bird transfer, but all he did was make a spectral image representation. It’s all lies, this is not the bird network future I was promised.
Yeah, FFX is supported with anims. I hit every FF from 7 to 15. :) My interest shifted over to emulators, so I never had the compulsion to look at 16, but I know my friend Joschka did do a plugin for 16.
I'm also visualizing damage masks now, and tracking transition frame counts. KI filters all attacks through a 2D matrix, so a player's hit box will gray out whenever the opposing player's attack state fails the damage matrix test.
This difference becomes even more significant as offset increases on the Z axis, such that you notice a difference in where jump attacks connect in relation to the rendered sprites. Air attacks appear to connect at different heights on the Riptor and Orchid stages, for example.
Projecting KI collision space with perfect accuracy, I noticed that hit shapes significantly deviate from the visuals across stages! Take a look at the different offsets for Fulgore's idle hit shape at the same scale/frame on 3 different stages.

The next BigInstinct will have a training mode, which goes beyond any training mode I've ever seen: hit shape visualization, exact frame timing displays, slow motion, and a lot more!
My favorite to-date was “call your boss out for trying to make you perform free labor while on unpaid medical leave.” But to be fair said boss did come from Activision, so I can’t take all the credit.
Praising the Lords live in Tucson, with BigPEmu for iOS and VLM! (VLM is responding to live audio from the microphone)
Amazing performance from @lordsofacid.bsky.social! Couldn’t have asked for a better set list.
BigInstinct version 1.0-B3 is out now! Here's what's new:
BigPEmu for iOS is on sale for $6.69 from now until June 7th, in celebration of the Day of Darkness. Happy Hell Day, everyone!
There were a few more changes in the last week and a half or so since the Patreon release, so it’s probably still worth the update. (especially if you plan to play Val d’Isere)
Yeah, the update is still waiting on Apple’s approval. Usually doesn’t take them too long, I’d expect it sometime in the next 48 hours.
