I feel like Trek may be less well known to younger generations due to it being in its heyday before many young folks were born or old enough to have it resonate with them. Whereas Star Wars has been dominating the cinemas and television without much of a gap for decades now.

Make no mistake, both are very culturally relevant, though in terms of reflecting society and being topical I feel Trek has had a much greater impact in terms of relevance, though I won’t discount Star Wars’s relevance either as both have their place in mirroring the times we live in.

Elder millennial here. I can say at least from my perspective and many folks I grew up around, Star Wars had a greater pop culture presence once it debuted (even though Trek came first), mostly bc movies often tended to have more recognition and obvious global impact at the time.

I remember as a kid thinking Dimetrodon was a dinosaur, only later to learn it is NOT! Dimetrodons were a type of synapsid, not related to dinosaurs at all!

One of my favorite dino puppets from the 1993 film “Super Mario Bros,” their take on Yoshi! It may not be faithful to the game, but that never bothered me as a kid.
