Found a friend in the woods last night. He swooped in quite close and ignored me completely.
5 years after bottom trawling was banned across more than 300 kmΒ² of seabed off southern England, early signs of ecosystem recovery are emerging. Mussel beds are re-establishing, fish populations are increasing, & conditions are improving for kelp forests. buff.ly/vnOTVLk #ShareGoodNewsToo
@victoriascott.bsky.social you mentioned a public comment period for the sounder expansion south/building its own rails. do you have a link?
I just think we're sleeping on space opera romance as a subgenre.
Congrats to all the finalists! This is an amazing list of great stories.
I know the current discourse is usually about the βK shaped economyβ and I donβt know if this idea is related to that, but it feels more like one of those video game levels where water is rising and you need to keep climbing to survive.
This month, @bluejo.bsky.social touches on Michael Chabon and mainstream lit, as well as Le Guin, Eco, and the latest from Kate Elliott. She also recommends three brand-new books that are finally out from Cameron Reed, John Chu, and Francis Spufford!
Look, what's wrong with being a slutty guy who loves to poison people? Everyone in this book is so fuckable or poisonable!
MS word is so far beyond fucked rn itβs not even funny. yay AI
Rock climbing and silk embroidery are not good friends as far as concurrent hobbies go
The budget is nonexistent and the actors are amateurs but itβs extremely charming and the music is great.
i would make a very strong argument that Mdou Moctar is earthβs greatest living guitarist. Anyway he remade Purple Rain and itβs the first fiction film in Tamasheq. And itβs on the internet archive! Cβmon, youβve got nothing better to do today. archive.org/details/rain...

I may be reaching the mathematical limit of what can be done with Costcoβs $.99/lb chicken drumsticks. I just hand minced two pounds of them for larb and saved trim for stock and schmaltz.
The economy is not great, dude.
1. This sucks extremely
2. Fuck that bar. You can ban anybody for any reason whenever. and making other patrons uncomfortable is the primary reason to fucking ban people.

the uh. logo? graphic? promo image? for Game Changer. the original image shows a rainbow blob with "I've been queer the whole time" this has been poorly edited to say "we've been queer the whole time" the art credit is to "@beyondWhatIsSeen"
it's harder if you're doing queer poly etc. not disagreeing there. its just. please don't unnecessarily close doors for yourself. there are also editors actively looking for this.
plus like. it's sff. if you think queer poly is new you're not reading the old stuff or talking to the old guard.
this is like my colleague going "do we need content warnings for this" and me going "remember the noncon scene with a giant monster?" and her going "well, now that you mention it"
The main reason booksellers (and librarians, and and and) shelve SF and fantasy together is that the same people buy both. Experiments in separating them have usually resulted in confusion and lower sales. (To say nothing of endless tiresome arguments about which category any given work belongs in.)
also i am subtweeting one (1) specific person that I know well enough that I know how much they don't read because they've told me. but they're not the only person I've seen say this.
this book is queer and poly and therefore traditional publishing will never consider it!
1. it's extremely hard to get published and i have so much sympathy for anyone on this journey
2. it is only to your benefit to pay attention to what is coming out, selling well, getting bought
pet peeve: people making vast incorrect statements about "trad pub" that instantly reveal they do not read new books
I'm going to be at apollycon later this month! If you're also going, let's meet up!
