A Jewish man is shipwrecked on an island for 30 years. When rescuers arrive, they wonder how he kept sane.
He shows them 2 magnificent buildings he built.
"This is my Synagogue, where I prayed to be rescued."
"And the other building?"
"Oh, that's the Synagogue I don't go to."
The milifandom children coming out of retirement for one last job, like Danny Ocean's crew if they all worked for think tanks.
Have to admit that I was wrong here - RMT have come back with alacrity.

I think it's notable that ASLEF's response to the RMT striking over this was basically 'what the hell are they smoking'.
Hopefully the RMT will take some time out of their busy schedule striking over being granted a 4-day work week(!!!) to answer why this charmer, literally holding an RMT banner, felt comfortable giving this response. But I wouldn't bet on it.
In a particularly piquant twist of the knife, given the circumstances, Kemi Badenoch says that she has 6 questions for the Prime Minister, and has taken the "unprecedented" step of providing them to the Prime Minister in advance, so that he has had full sight of them before this Commons session.
You can knock all this as a fixation by journalists if you want. But I think it's worth bearing in mind that it was a paper (the FT) which was consistently asking Mandelson the tough questions (he said they had an "obsession" and told them to "fuck off") when no-one else was.
Boris Johnson infamously appears to think fidelity is something to do with violins, but was still able to become PM. Ultimately he was brought down by the Pincher cover-up, the upper-cut to Partygate's jab.
It's unclear what will bring Starmer down (something will, even if it's not this).
That's what this all boils down to. For better or worse, that's what most stories about politicians boil down to - whether it's tax, sex, cover-ups or even boob hypnotherapy - is this a trustworthy person? Should we be trusting them to lead a country?
Some can weather one of these, others can't.
The problem with going "this is a Westminster storm-in-a-teacup, the obsession of a bunch of journalists with no cut-through to the country at large" is a) a bunch of Tory-adjacent accounts said the exact same thing over Partygate, & b) It wilfully ignores the underlying issue - is the PM honest?
Assuming the Government is about to pivot hard to *while they're obsessing over details of who said what when, WE'RE out there delivering for the country, cutting NHS waiting times, providing free school meals* etc.
Which will go down like flatulence in a lift.
Come to give the PLP encouragement, I'm sure.
West Ham Vs Man City, April 2001.
Defender Ian Pearce gets steamrollered. Concussion.
Half time. Redknapp: "Can he play or not!?"
Physio: "Harry, he doesn’t even know who he is!"
Redknapp: "Well tell him he’s Pele and I’m putting him on up front!”
Certainly brings new meaning to the idea of a clutch.
"No, I said do you drive stick SHIFT, Barry! SHIFT!"
Could be, or that an American editor has changed it to be comprehensible to a US readership.

It would be so quintessentially 21st century Britain if what ultimately brings down a Prime Minister can basically be described as a GDPR issue.
It looks as if there were no further arson attacks overnight, thank goodness.
Two people have been arrested in connection with Saturday night's firebombing of Kenton United Synagogue.

Can confirm the only party which has leafleted in my area are the Tories (who hold the ward), & the main subject is NIMBYism (which TBF I think every local party not actually running the council engages in).
Wonder whether they’re just hunkering down trying to hold on to what they currently have…
It’s now getting to the point where I’m getting ready for sleep and assuming that when I wake up there will have been news of another Jewish site in the UK firebombed.
Three out of the last 4 nights have seen arson attacks on Jewish community sites in North West London.
We'll see if it's confirmed.
I do know in February 2023 Tom Tugendhat told Parliament the Iranian regime was trying to collect intelligence on the UK Jewish community, saying the government "believe this information was preparation for future lethal operations.”

Mainstream Jewish person: *Here is a 'react like a piece of shit' button. Can you make sure no-one on the far-right presses it?*
Far Left: *Sure thing* (promptly break the button through jabbing it repeatedly)
Having been warned about how you would have to be a giant douchebag to do a "but Israel" post about the firebombing of a Synagogue, someone then does just that. Multiple likes on it, too. What a fucking world.
OH MY GOD. SHUT UP. SHUT THE FUCK UP. SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU FUCKING PATHETIC INDIVIDUAL. YOU THINK YOU'RE MAKING SOME SORT OF DEVASTATINGLY INTELLIGENT POINT ABOUT 'LEGITIMATE CRITICISM OF ISRAEL' HERE, DO YOU? SHOULD WE ALL CLAP? SHOULD WE BUILD YOU A FUCKING MEDAL PODIUM?
If you’re just waking up, here’s what we know so far about last night’s firebombing of a Synagogue.
Yes, another one.

I mean, I say “now”, it’s not like there isn’t a long history of this sort of thing - from back in the Middle Ages to arson attacks by the far right in the 60’s. It would be nice to think things had progressed, but apparently not.
You know what I don’t want, personally?
I don’t want any “this is not who we are” hand-wringing statements from politicians.
Because this obviously what the UK is now. The question is, how are the people who run the country going to deal with that reality?
