For April, I plan to finally add more depth to the game after many QoL releases.
I'm so excited to implement the new features and can't wait to build out my own game world more, one small feature at a time ๐

Overall I'm super happy with the trajectory of the game:
- Discord has grown to almost 300 members
- The game has almost crossed 4,000 players
- Conversion and retention rates look healthy
Finally, prepare for slow days ๐ซฅ
It's not always trending upward.
I had days with just a handful of sales, and I had $300 days.
Most likely my April will be slower as I have only 1/5 of the downloads again.
I also messed up my user retention by basically having no onboarding ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Don't just slap an intro slider on your app and call it a day - actually walk them through the first 3-5 minutes.
Design what they should see, which wins they should have.
Here's what I did ๐

You Appstore page and ASO is the most important piece to convert people.
Tweak that part before anything else - I shared some thoughts about it here ๐

Even if you don't like IAP...people are used to them ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Everyone knows the meaning of diamonds as premium currency.
Everyone has seen a season pass before.
Everyone loves a highly discounted starter pack.
Even if you as dislike micro transactions, they are still one of the best monetizations โ๏ธ
Sometimes you get lucky!
For a short period, downloads jumped from ~30/day โ 150โ200/day.
I had no idea what changed, but most likely:
Apple pushed/featured the app, as the "App Store Browse" was way higher than usual.
Apparently that didn't last long - let's hope I can get their again soon ๐

In this video, I break down exactly what worked, what didnโt, and the biggest mistakes I made along the way - from idea to launch.
If youโve ever thought about building your own game, this is the honest version no one really talks about.

My indie game made $2,500.
Not life-changingโฆ
but enough to completely change how I think about building apps.
Hereโs what it learned so far ๐
I made a tiny change to my App Store pageโฆ
and suddenly more people started downloading my game ๐
Your App Store page decides if people even try your app ๐
I lost over half my players in the first 10 minutes of my game.
This is how I (hopefully) fixed the leaking bucket ๐
If you want to check it out, download Tiny Harvest (event unlocks at Level 7):
๐ iOS: apps.apple.com/us/app/tiny...
๐ Android: play.google.com/store/apps/...
Launched my first live community event ๐ฐ
For 14 days, players can find random eggs on their farm and get rewards, while working together on the global goal of collecting 100k eggs ๐ฅ
Might have set the number a bit low, the game has been growing rapidly lately ๐

Everyone's arguing about AI and coding.
In this video I share my honest take on what AI actually does to your skills
as a developer - and what you should focus on instead.

I stopped writing most of my code.
AI does it now.
Soโฆ what does that do to your skills as a developer?
I made a video about this ๐

My game has a very obvious onboarding problem:
Once players hit Level 20, they are likely to stick around.
But most don't even make it to L5 or L10.
Looks like the task for next week is clear:
I need a better onboarding!
Plan this feature first with focus on improving retention and visualising numbers so we can make meaningufl changes based on the data"
Also include more stats that could be helpful to visualise or understand retention, like at which level players were last online, or how many players were last online on a day.
For anyone interested, this was my (single!) prompt:
"I need to understand where players drop off, on which level most players are etc so we can improve the retention. Add a new page to our admin-web/ app with a chart that shows level distribution of all InstantDB players.
AI one-shot a retention analysis for Tiny Harvest ๐ฅ
These are the moment where I truly love the progress of AI.
This would have taken me hours, if I had actually pulled together the right data and libraries for the charts.
It took less than 3 minutes.
Spent hours debugging a crash in my app.
Turns out it was caused by the iOS Reduce Motion accessibility setting.
A reminder that real-world users run your app in environments you never test ๐
