Extreme Cold temperatures have once again arrived to Manitoba today.. Yes, the cold can be harsh but it often brings beautiful scenes like this with it!

I took this photo of a BRILLIANT sundog display earlier today around 2:30pm just SW of Brandon, Manitoba!

Looking out over a frozen lake. In the foreground is ice that has pushed up along a pressure crack and has been covered with fresh snow. Another crack radiates behind it to a large space where a open lead has frozen over. This is a very dynamic ice surface. It’s a sunny day with blue skies and an island can be seen in the distance on the horizon.

This doesn’t look like much but it shows our wide temperature swings this last week. It’s-28°C this morning, but it was 0°C only a few days ago. This is a pressure ridge on the lake that opened and let water come to the surface and freeze. New cracks and push-ups show how dynamic the ice is.
