1/2 📢 Calling Indigenous journos in Canada
Big opportunity: @indiginews.bsky.social has launched a photojournalism fellowship, offering a week-long, all-expenses paid intensive at University of King's College this May.
The program wouldn’t have happened without the leadership of the Indigenous Journalists Association, the eagerness of staff at APTN News to take on the work of guiding new voices, and the generosity of the Google News Initiative. We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of this important work.
This fellowship connected Indigenous people looking to pursue careers in journalism with six-month placements at @aptnnews.bsky.social, workshops with seasoned reporters, and @indigenousja.bsky.social's Indigenous Media Conference in Albuquerque.
Thank you to our partners and participants in the first year of the #GrowingIndigenousStorytellersFellowship! Check out the amazing work done by fellows Veronica Blackhawk, Angela Belleau, Tyler Shingoose, Rose Jacobs, Ryan Cunningham and Julia Ross: jhr.ca/presenting-t...

At the Community Media Awards 2025, JHR-trained journalists were honoured for their reporting from marginalized areas in #Kenya. These stories are produced under tough conditions: rough terrain, security risks, limited equipment + dangerous travel. Yet the reporting persists.
🗣️"I travelled 250km to cover this story. This award is for the children who strive to become future leaders despite barriers to their education."- JHR-trained journalist Isaac Waihenya, Radio Jangwani
