Our latest work on shape-programmable tissues is out in @science.org. By positioning topological defects in cellular nematics, we encode frustrated 2D force fields that relax into predictable 3D shapes. Collaboration with Marino Arroyo’s lab, led by @pauguillamat.bsky.social at @ibecbarcelona.eu.
Important work by Hopkins colleagues Profs Sean Sun and Jude Philip on how microplastics affect gene expression and associated cell growth and motility in vitro and in vivo.

It is a reason Iranian kids like me born in 60s had access to measles vaccines soon after they were developed in the west

New piece on the mechanics of squamous epithelial shape transition highlighting the role of tensile forces, force transmission by Dumpy & elastic resistance by the ECM in the developing wing. Terrific work from Stefan Harmansa @morphomechanics.bsky.social with Alex Erlich🍾👏:

Au @museeorsay.bsky.social, des images de cellules observées au microscope deviennent une performance visuelle pour faire sortir la biologie du laboratoire et révéler l’architecture du vivant.

New paper out! In this project, we focused on the question how tissue mechanics is spatially controlled during development. We show that the GPCR ligand Fog acts as a “mechanogen” during Drosophila gastrulation, driving a self-organized wave of tissue invagination:

Tissue mechanics and synth morphogenesis folks, bump on this:
Would you or someone in your lab be up for a video of a protocol you use getting recorded? The tips and tricks, the hard-to-explain-without-seeing-it-done?
In the name of standardization and reproducibility in the field: get in touch! 🫀
Congratulations @ivaskalab.bsky.social team for this study on the role of vibration in vocal cord cancer! Was a fun collaboration 🎤🎤
Lecture de Les irresponsables, un livre saisissant sur la montée du fascisme. C’est éclairant, inquiétant, et surtout d’une actualité frappante.
My PhD work showed that vimentin is not only a passive marker of EMT, but plays an active role in collective migration, controlling the mechanics of epithelial leader cells. I am grateful to my supervisors, Rene-Marc & Benoit Ladoux, as well as to all the co-authors.

Congratulations to Dr. Viola Introini (@vascularinfection.bsky.social)👏
She receives the Hector #Research Career Development Award. It honors young researchers on their way to becoming professors. Her group at MPZPM investigates how #malaria affects the human body.

My lab @cri-utsw.bsky.social is looking for a highly motivated postdoct interested in mechanobiology!
We are building a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team working on how mechanical forces shape immune and cancer cell behavior.
Come do cool science with me!

Excited to share our work on epithelial multilayering - identifying why stem cell stay in the basal layer and how and why differentiating cells move up. Great collab with @manningresearch.bsky.social and Niessen labs! Check out preprint and great summary below www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Pour comprendre la discussion budgétaire qui se clôt il faut objectiver, avec lucidité et sérénité, une réalité désormais structurante : l’emprise inédite des milliardaires sur la vie démocratique de la nation.

Iranians are experiencing a collective trauma. Thousands have been killed/injured in recent events, the economy is crippled & the threat of a wider conflict is real. This is especially difficult for those living in Iran, as many have lost (or fear losing) loved ones. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Many people have wondered why the Chien-Shiung Wu never won the Nobel Prize for Physics. New findings from the Nobel archives, exclusively revealed in Physics World, show she was nominated 23 times by 18 different physicists - and yet was still left empty-handed. 🧪⚛️
