Also it *might* be the case that a bunch of things that were fun with small kids (trips to the zoo) might be a great way to pass the time and give them a smile.

A suggestion I read elsewhere: a print subscription to the Onion. Keep a copy in the car, keep a copy somewhere in the house where your loved ones can find it. They'll find it funny every time. :-)
