A WGN employee? Oh. That's, ah, ehm. WGN is popular in Chicago, so that's uh, maybe not a great move, you know? I'm not saying that WGN is John Wick's puppy, but I'm not not saying that either.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

BREAKING: Our client Mario Guevara, an Emmy-winning journalist detained by ICE in retaliation for livestreaming law enforcement activity, will be deported tomorrow to El Salvador.

Mario and his family are being punished for his reporting. This cruelty is meant to stifle our free press.

Exactly. This is fairly complex and we still do not know all of the facts. No need to jump to conclusions.

It does compute. He said in his resignation letter why he was resigning.

6 months ago 0 0 1 0

Yes. I understand. He received a deportation because he did not show up to a hearing. That notice is from 2024. The letter saying that the situation has been resolved is from 2025. Accordingly, Dr. Roberts likely thought that this situation was resolved when it very well may not have been.

I'm not criticizing Dr. Roberts, I am criticizing his prior representation. That is not a proper closing letter.

6 months ago 12 0 0 1

Yes. That is why it is misleading. But there is no mention of the type of relief or whether anything else needs to happen. If there are no next steps, then say "You do not need to do anything else."

Too soon to say for sure, but likely he did have some kind of work authorization. His former attorney messed up big time with letter leading him to believe that all was resolved when it sounds like there were further steps. If you miss a hearing, the judge automatically enters an order for removal

Leave it to ICE to paint the worst possible picture of anyone, if not outright lie. Really hope Dr. Roberts gets the relief he deserves, that being that he is immigration status and finds another job. His track record is great.

That is woefully light on details that should be there. Says nothing about the immigration relief or next steps. I feel very bad for Dr. Roberts. Hopefully, his new representation can work this out. But from what I can tell, this is a great big misunderstanding with potential for a bad outcome.

This is the letter Dr. Roberts received in March, 2025 from his attorney. I understand why he thought all was good, but this attorney provides no next steps nor does she say what the immigration relief is. Poor guy. #ianroberts

So it sounds like he had a case, and has a previous attorney on that case in Texas and that attorney sent him a letter saying the case had been resolved positively. Robert's lawyer has that letter.

Iowa school leader detained by ICE seeks to put his deportation on hold, lawyers say Lawyers for the Des Moines public schools leader detained by immigration authorities have asked an immigration court to put deportation proceedings on hold

Lawyers for Roberts have filed a motion to stay the deportation hearing. This could be a tactic to force ICE to produce the order, per an immigration attorney I spoke to.

This could be strategic on lawyers part to get DHS to produce the deportation order.

Attorneys filed request for stay with the federal immigration court in Omaha on behalf of Superintendent #IanRoberts. Parrish did not elaborate on the filing, which was made under seal, but said his law firm planned a news conference later Tuesday.

Lawyers move to prevent Des Moines superintendent from being deported Lawyers for Des Moines schools Superintendent Ian Roberts file a petition seeking to stay his deportation order while his case is considered

Hold up, this is interesting. This may mean that there actually is an order. If that is the case, this is a very, very strange case.

So does this confirm there was a deportation order? Because I had thought that ICE had not released that order.

More RW feeding frenzy. Meanwhile, why won't ICE just release the deportation order they claim was issued under the Biden administration?

They always do.

I know there is evidence he was registered to vote in MD. Pretty easy to look up if someone voted.

Agreed.

6 months ago 0 0 0 0

Agreed on all accounts.

6 months ago 0 0 0 0

But I suppose it is possible he didn't use the card with restrictive legend. I had read that he was a US citizen.

And btw, voting when you are not a US citizen is a big no no. It eliminates any chance of a pathway to citizenship. If he voted in MD, and was not a citizen, that's a problem.

If you have a ss#, then you have permission to work. However, if you lose work authorization SSN card will be updated to reflect the change. The SSA will issue a new card to your existing number but with a different "restrictive legend" to indicate your current work status.

News reports also indicated that he stated he was US citizen. ICE could very easily release the deportation order, and this would all be put to rest.

Agreed. I just want more information.

Oh please. This is laughable.

And what if it wasn't a fake passport? We don't know one way or the other yet.
