Metropolitan (1990)

Metropolitan (1990)

Rangers 2, M's 5. The Rangers slide back to .500. A 4-6 road trip isn't unacceptable when two of the three opponents are the Dodgers and M's, and 11-11 overall isn't unacceptable with a tough schedule and 16 of 22 played on the road, but it's just, well, 11-11.

Come See The Paradise (1990)

Rangers 5, Mariners 0. 11-9 alone in 1st, 3.5 ahead of said M's. A nice start to the weekend after an understandable 1-2 in LA and annoying Sacramento split. Texas has thrown 22 straight scoreless innings vs Seattle.

back to your actual point: the replies to Evan are a real treat, too. Yeesh.

and of course the top reply at the hellsite is "vaxxed?!?"

Rangers 5, Athletics 6. The Rangers are 9-9. They DFA'ed RHP Marc Church today. I've had this in the queue since last year, waiting to use it for what I'd hoped was just an off night in an otherwise successful stretch of MLB appearances.

Congrats on the MLB debut of Gavin Collyer. Swinging strike, call, call. This after throwing 15 pitches the day before. The Rangers hardly ever do back-to-backs in the minors, and Collyer never had done so in AAA (which probably mean never professionally, I'll check later). Enjoying the CC too.

Sborz had a bad night.

Sborz had a bad night.

And Sborz made his planned back-to-back outing. Velo didn’t decay much (avg FB 93.5) but results weren’t there.

And fwiw (one wheat penny), I was *not* a Collyer booster when he was suddenly getting attention for appearing atop Stuff lists. He didn’t look the part then. Basic control issues and batters weren’t chasing. Didn’t merit a 40 spot over the winter, had work to do. Much better in ‘26.

Wasn’t expecting Church over Otanez but it crossed my mind. Bad basic line, statcast actually pretty good but hiding deep inconsistency. Had an outing where he got pulled after just 13 pitches and 4 not-quite-hard balls in play for hits. Really weird. Like, “we’ve seen enough.”

Collyer deserves the call. I didn’t write about Quantrill because I was restricting myself to AAA relievers, but I’m lukewarm tbh. Full story on the AAA relievers as potential MLB replacements: scottlucas.com/2026/04/15/4...

Could be. He's been the same. Not bad, but not really setting himself atop the rest.

Pitches thrown today in Round Rock: Diaz 2 (JIC'ed in the 4th), Sborz 16 , Otanez 15 , Collyer 15, Gray 22. Otanez, Church and Teodo are on 40 but none has been reliable, uneasy about any of them getting the call. Brasier around, a few others. Collyer has looked best imo.

I vaguely remember thinking Lee or Parada. I was kind of blah on Lee, seemed like a tweener on offense and defense. He did stick at short at least.

Rocker was certainly off the board but I remember the explanation being nobody else really caught Texas's fancy. Rocker's future still ill-defined but almost everyone else linked to Texas and available at #3 has flopped. Best of the lot has been Brooks Lee.

My Green preview: "Last year at this time, the mordant joke was that Texas should tank 2022 to secure Green, who'd stood out as a junior against older competition. ...biggest power prospect and a superior runner. The questions are about the miss in his swing and whether he'll stick in center."

Green vs Curry

Green vs Curry

Thai night in Wilmington. Curry looks good. Hope springs eternal, maybe. Green looks like someone who would have never advanced beyond low-A if not for being 5th-overall pick in 2022. Got a solo homer earlier but has a 50% K rate.

Josh Sborz with a 123 inning and 2 K, 2 misses, FB avg 94.5. Last outing before some sort of decision on his future (which could be just agreeing to stay put).

Rangers 8, Athletics 1. The Rangers are 9-7, alone in 1st. Jake Burger homered twice tonight after an eleven-game .136/.156/.205 stretch. Shame on anyone who doubted him.

Wrote about Jake Burger today as a more serious expansion on yesterday's failed joke-post. Certainly not suggesting Foscue is the answer because that's just not possible, but wondering at what point *something* else has to be tried. I'd love Burger to put this to bed with more three-run homers.

Texas Rangers Top 38 Prospects Strong work from the international group, particularly with respect to small-dollar signings, has kept this system afloat even after several big trades.

Rangers 5, Dodgers. The Rangers leave Los Angeles with a win and are 8-7. Evan Carter is hitting .286/.419/.543 against righties and [redacted] against lefties. On to Sacto.

Was going to joke about Burger selling his soul to the devil for better hitting, and the devil's price is Burger fielding like a rec-league softball player on his fourth beer, but Burger's slashes are all below in 2025 rates.
