I need people to wrap their minds around the fact that here in Minneapolis, ICE broke the window of a vehicle yesterday, pepper sprayed the occupants, and arrested them, and shot another observer in the face today, and OBSERVERS ARE STILL GOING OUT TO PROTECT THEIR NEIGHBORS AT MASSIVE PERSONAL RISK

Here's the ICE agent "defending himself" by shooting into the driver's side window of a car that's pulling *away* from him.

Put this photo on the front page of every newspaper in America.

Nothing eases the boycott pressure like a cynically promoted item from a boycotted company physically inside another boycotted company.

Lovely peacock ore bornite gets arts points as a source of copper, but so is rare carrollite, which is also a source of cobalt… and cobalt is important for pigments including cobalt violet, cobalt yellow, cobalt titanite green, and of course, cobalt blue.

A glimpse into a vanished ecosystem: reconstructing diet and palaeoenvironment of Palaeoloxodon from the Pleistocene of Taiwan | Royal Society Open Science Palaeoloxodon is the largest known terrestrial mammal in the history of Taiwan. Proper thread time! Today marks the publication of my fourth book, Spinosaur Tales, this one written with and illustrated by @markwitton.bsky.social. It's out now in the UK (hardback, audiobook, ebook) and will be out elsewhere in Jan 2026. It covers all things spinosaurian, including Spinosaurus.

“There’s too many Americans on SNAP!”

Yes there are. Too many corporations refuse to pay a living wage.

Huge companyies are encouraging their employees to apply for SNAP because they don’t pay them enough to survive.

The government encourages this & then blames the poor.

Zohran Mamdani is the bright future of the Democratic Party — brimming with excellent ideas about what working families need.

I was delighted to chat with him earlier today.

If you're a New Yorker, don't forget to cast your vote for him by Tuesday, Nov. 4.

The New York Post is owned by Lachlan Murdoch, solely because his daddy bought it and passed it on to him.

And it's backing Andrew Cuomo, a meathead whose whole career in politics stems from his daddy being good at it.

But *Mamdani* is the nepo baby, because his mom was a filmmaker? Sure.

Finished Dr. Rae Wynn-Grants book, Wild Life, recently. And it was a good read. As someone still at @amnh.org, I can say that there are still issues with being a woman that are an issue, and you still don't see enough black scientists. #science #diversity

Me sitting in a saddle on a remarkably docile longhorn steer while flashing Theropod Gang signs with both hands (like a Star-Trek Vulcan salute but with hands turned, imitating three digit trait of a non-avian theropod dinosaur). I am wearing light-brown shorts and a gray t-shirt with Ray Troll's artwork, the latter saying "The Data is in the Strata."

After a whirlwind (& most excellent) #GSA2025 meeting in San Antonio TX, flew back to Atlanta GA Tuesday night, taught my Wednesday classes, & today attempting triage on a pile of emails. Still, no regrets about attending the meeting & an epic dinosaur-track-oriented pre-meeting field trip. 🧪🪨⚒️🐾🦖🦕
