stinks
my hometown! i will not be moving back
incredible
ya it's extremely unlikely, especially bc his innings will be capped at 65/70
ok if mason miller does a 5 WAR reliever season maybe he should win a cy young
did my best to answer keith's q for @mattmartell.fangraphs.com's mailbag
she is my GOAT
no surprise but her this is lorelei cover from earlier this week is sublime
A screenshot of FanGraphs' homepage, showing articles about Randy Vásquez and Emerson Hancock, who pitch against each other tonight.
Tonight's pitching matchup in the Vedder Cup:
Randy Vásquez vs. Emerson Hancock
Two pitchers who ranked bottom 10 in strikeout rate from 2023-2025 but are now getting tons of whiffs early in 2026.
And hey, perfect timing: we wrote about them back-to-back on Monday @fangraphs.com
ya i'd encourage everyone to watch lance's video if you're interested in the latest on how teams are monkeying with their pitchers these days
hancock is the only guy to cut his fastball spin efficiency from ~100% to the low 80s
had the same thought the second after sending this skeet
oh NO
no get out of here im posting about random prospects
stumbled across an interesting pop-up prospect guy, ben jacobs, tigers 3rd rounder in 2025, striking out 46% of hitters thru two starts
the fastball (94 mph from a lefty w 18" iVB and a 5.3 foot release) looks plus-plus already (not sure why @tjstats.ca model doesn't like it much)
it was only today watching him that i realized that it isn't "lawyerson" which i must admit disappointed me a little
cody laweryson is my kind of reliever
i caught the eighth! that cutter/slider thing he's throwing looks legit
...rockies?
i've been thinking about this re roki's forkball and gyro slider
both of those pitches are around 0/0 iVB/HB and are thrown at similar velos, so they look similar on a plot. but surely the spin pattern differentiates them somehow, at least to the batter
i don't think so, screwballs usually involve a good deal of pronation and more vertical depth, the slo mo closeup of imai's grip shows he's throwing it like a slider but getting underneath the ball/throwing it from a funny orientation to get that movement
decent floor of vet arms in the rotation, good defense up the middle, a few bats who can do damage
there's something... competent about this rockies team
hello... i'm looking to talk to some pitching trainers and/or coaches for a story. are you a pitching coach or trainer? do you know one? DM me!
