One of the best tips I was give a while back is the use of "IES profile" for my Bakery( #unity plugin) baked lights. They can give a lot more interesting and realistic feel. This is a long-term WIP of a #VRChat artgallery world. Every prop I've modelled in #blender + substancePainter.

Before & after lighting the virtual gallery.
After block out & onto figuring out the art direction, I do a couple tests with lighting. Lighting really helps ground the style & gives ideas on directing attention.

You can stand up triumphantly, knowing you survived another winter.
I saw a video of snow getting caught in an updraft at the top of an abandoned skyscraper. The way it danced and floated just looked unreal. It kind of inspired me to try to make a particle system that feels that ethereal.

For me the biggest one is proportions of their materials & textures. space instantly feels off if materials are too big or stretched. Sticking to a scale and making sure your materials are at that scale is an important first step when learning level design.

What makes level design & virtual spaces feel "off" or amateurish? What can you usually point to when teaching someone level design and say "Don't do that, it looks bad".
