On 24–25 March, our Campaign joined the first meeting of the @coe.int Steering Committee on the Environment (CDENV) in Strasbourg (and online), feeding into the implementation of the Environment Strategy.

A binding legal instrument to do that is crucial to ensure people across the continent can live safely and with dignity. No time to lose!

Fighting against this unacceptable legal discrimination is crucial for people living in French overseas territories, amid serious environmental violations like pesticide contamination and lacking access to potable water. The fight for justice keeps on!

This could not have been achieved without the advocacy of actors like Kimbé Rèd - French West Indies (F.W.I.), which campaigned to overcome this “colonial clause” that excluded 2+ million people from seeing their social rights protected.

Last week, France's COE Ambassador welcomed representatives from Andorra, Spain, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Portugal, Slovenia and Sweden to the Permanent Representation of France to discuss this matter.

Our Campaign members engaged in developing a coherent and ambitious Strategy at meetings of the CDENV’s predecessor, the Ad Hoc Multidisciplinary Group on the Environment (GME).
That is why civil society participation is so important to shape the next steps!
