In an interview on hate crime, the BBC quotes a BTP Chief Sup saying “people who are Jewish that decide to travel anyway...”
I'm sure the intention was harmless, but words matter, particularly now, and I feel this was clumsy phrasing.

Btw - do you feel as passionate about British of Russian descent? What about Sudanese? Should they get shot for wars they have nothing to do with?
You have simply proven that you are a very simple racist. I can only hope others who come across this are more reflective and open to the wider picture.
Of course it is wrong to conflate. And there are plenty of Jews who are critical of the Israeli government. Heck, that's are probably close to 50%of israelis who are. Many demonstrate weekly. You simple not interested in facts. A good perspective can be heard here - open.spotify.com/episode/5Lfv...
I don't disagree. I just don't see the relevance to a thread about the murder of Jews in Australia just for being Jews.
You are the one conflating Judaism with being Israeli by connecting the two. And whilst I'm at it - plenty of Israelis criticising their government. So even that's a broad brush
I don't think I'm being lazy. Your suggested connection between what the Israeli government does in the middle east and the killing of Jews in Australia attending a festival is exactly what antisemitism looks like. Killing Jews just before being Jews.
Actually it does extend, not that you actually pause to think it might. My point totally made. You're exemplifying what antisemitism looks like.
My son is looking for degree apprenticeships and applying to quite a few. I have to say @channel4.bsky.social initial questionnaire is the best I've seen. Tailored for each role and really assessing attitude specific to the company and role. So much better than the generic screening most others do!
Did the shooters stop and checked if the people they were gunning down were pro/anti Israel or a two state solution or did they just went for the Jewish festival goers?
@eddavey.libdems.org.uk - on 21/12 there is a first ever Chanuka celebration in Woking town centre. I invited @willforster.bsky.social who unfortunately can't attend. Show solidarity and join the Surrey community?
It is very sad, but it's a reflection on society and not the independent. Must be near impossible to sustain proper journalism today because noone is willing to pay for it.
Even the good old BBC is resorting to sensationalism to keep audience.
Have no idea what the answer is, thoughts?
Need a bait - "this celebrity names three things wrong with a leading newspaper"
I would gloat if it wasn't so bloody sad.
If the best he could expect for the inaugural conference is that they "would get through this weekend" then I really think the project had failed already. And I, for one, won't shed a tear.
Fabulous!
I actually agreed with @libdemdaisy.bsky.social on BBC R4 any questions today - it is necessary because of the thousands current denied justice due to the backlog and the idea of a judge and two magistrates retains some of the 'by my peers' principle. Have not heard a better alternative yet!
Or was it for free?
Good for environment, good for cars, a whole new recene stream for car park owners and better than taking up farming land for aolar farms, this should be incentived

I simply can't decide between Queen's "another one bites the dust" and Brenda's "oh no, not another one"

Deport from where?
And so the main question is - where would they disperse to in due course?
The parties would do well to stop attacking each other and start talking actually thought through policies (and actions) that affect people's lives.
I don't. However, don't you value an independent #BBC, or you do, unless it does not suit you?
It is right that a government, of any colour, does not intervene.
Although there's already too much political meddling.
Not least because even if you did what would be a good news move for most, it will be drowned in any other measures and so people would still not feel it in their pocket.
Irrespective of what any labour member (I am not one) thinks about Starmer, they must know that copying the conservatives' revolving door will be a political suicide!
So, Andrew, the Duke of York, is known from here on as Andrew, formerly the Duke of York.
Sure. That'll fix it.
What a brilliant interview by Amol Rajan with Katharine Birbalsingh. Thought provoking, Intellectual sparring and yes - quite radical.
That is not true. I am a pro-two-state activist for decades, but timing and context matters, as are real actions, not hollow statements.
You conveniently ignore the fact that Hamas stated aim is not a Palestinian state, but the destruction of Israel. A two state solution requires two leaders.
So true. @eddavey.libdems.org.uk - what's really needed is a change of the language and greater accuracy on the situation in Gaza as well as acceptance that the pro-palestinian movement actually harbours strong antisemitism which encourages hurting Jews wherever they are. Irrespective of their views
I actually looked it up, thinking the same.
However - according to the diary, Jihad indeed means "struggle" it is often misinterpreted narrowly as "holy war" where In Islamic theology, Jihad refers to a meritorious effort in the path of God.
I am not defending anyone. But accuracy matters.
...where what the country needs is more compassion and understanding...(Not for the son actions, but that radicalisation can happen outside the house).
Of course I hope that the investigation will indeed confirm that was the case and find out who did support and encourage him.
absolutely their right, but other countries declaring that, does not make it so, and won't change a thing.
What's needed is
1. Palestinian leadership that can govern peacefully. Unlike the corrupt PA and murderous Hamas.
2. An international force to ensure the safety of both sides.
