Create a world so beautiful that no one will miss the 2010s-2020s. It will be a lost age buried and forgotten as it should be.

I see solarpunk as a way for the green left to forge a cultural identity in a void of cultural identities. A distinctive "look" that appeals to those who feel suffocated by the plain white, gray, and beige of the present day. One that says "yes, we can have a pluralistic society that isn't ugly."

This is why I think solarpunk should more than just an alternative tech optimist ideal. It has to be a culture and aesthetic too.

A lot of the solarpunk art I see has a distinct Art Noveau aesthetic, made of organic curves. Beautiful, welcoming, humanistic.

A balance of sustainability and beauty.

Culture is dead.

And what is there left? A right wing that reifies traditional aesthetics as virtue but pals around with exactly the same people who give us this tasteless void?

Liberals who think not liking the tasteless void is reactionary?

A left wing with no cultural identity?

Thrift store hauntology?

There is good music out there. But it's marginalized in favor of the forgettable.
There is good cinema. But it's marginalized to art houses while most of what reaches our eyes is the same stories over and over.
There is good interior design, but the arbiters of taste give us white and sad beige.

The Internet lately is just too full of hauntological nostalgia.

The capitalism of the present day marginalizes real aesthetic and promotes blandness. It leaves a gaping void of plain white boxes that we paint with memories of other times.

We're not meant to live in plain white boxes.

It's complicated for me. But trying to get work in the transport/logistics sector means I had to give up getting high. I wish I could say my life was better or my moods had improved or whatever but nope, no discernible benefit and I'm a lot grouchier.

I am looking for environmental artists, particularly people with a strong background in concept work for interior locations

Atmospheric/ Liminal vibes appreciated

Faculty Defect From Texas Publics, Citing Censorship Fed up with the state’s censoring of Plato, Joan of Arc and Romeo and Juliet, humanities professors are leaving Texas public institutions in pursuit of academic freedom.

'Texas A&M philosophy professor Martin Peterson is leaving the university after administrators told him in January that he couldn’t teach Plato’s Symposium in his philosophy class; they said the ancient Greek philosopher’s work violated the system’s restrictions on gender and sexuality content.' 1/3

Meta threw a party for a right-wing influencer who wants to “save the West” The celebration offers a cocktail-fueled look at the tech behemoth's rightward pivot.

NEW: Meta co-sponsored a celebration with the Daily Wire for podcaster Isabel Brown, who often foments about Islam and wants to "save the West," which is an interesting, cocktail-party-level look at the company's rightward pivot www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Star Trek The Next Generation scene. Young ensign Wesley Crusher (the boy) sits at a console on the bridge, but he's turned around like he's having a talk with safe and trustworthy adult who has walked up behind him. He looks sincere and earnest, as if it's a 'very special episode of Star Trek.' He's wearing his blue and blue and gold and red and blue again Wesley sweater, which is not a bad look, tbh. Closed caption reads, "drugs can make you feel good."

Big abortion win in PA today - the ban on Medicaid funding is unconstitutional!

AND there's a fundamental right to abortion!

We won!

(Though this Commonwealth Court opinion can be appealed - we'll see what our AG does.)

One perk to living in Germany as a trans woman: it's not unusual to meet cis women as tall as you or taller.

Every single transphobe is a misogynist.

Every single one.

Mockbusters are usually more topical. For example, when "Transformers" was in the theaters, another studio had "Transmorphers."

So how does one get started writing mockbusters? Because I have a thought:

Today's movies are so BORING and unimaginative that I could probably write mockbusters that are BETTER than the swill the major studios are putting out.

How will Grande Prairie or Olds benefit from the proposed data centers?

Data centers use a lot of land, power & water

They provide jobs in the short term but very few in the long term
IMO, this feels like another grift

If I saw this parked on the street outside a house with no one getting in or out for a long time I would assume this was Kash Patel's FBI on a stakeout.
