Lizard of the day: Round Island ground skink!
A species from Mauritius! They're one of the largest lizard species in their region and are diurnal ground-dwelling omnivores! They have a rather pale, bland coloration, though their skin appears shiny under the sun.

I have a soft spot for chameleons. I love how they walk goofy to mimic leaves swaying in the breeze, and how they can moves their eyes independently. And they all just look so cute 🤍

Lizard of the day: Bale two-horned chameleon!
An Ethiopian species! Males have two small horns on their snout to which they owe their name. They are prominently green with dark stripes and have a spiky crest under their jaw and neck that looks like a lil beard!

Lizard of the day: Blue-tailed sandveld lizard!
A species from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique! They inhabit sandvelts: sandy regions in the savannah. Lost for science for 50 years due to their elusiveness, the species was rediscovered by science in December 2025!

A very tiny bright orange baby salamander. It is extraordinarily cute, lying happily on moss.

We saw our first little red eft of the year today. If you see one please do not pick it up! Their skin is highly porous and the salt, oils, lotion, sunblock, bug spray, etc. from your hands can make them sick. Use a leaf to move them if they must be relocated for their safety. ❤️
