So gross. Cuomo is not funded by New Yorkers. He is funded by special interests. #nocuomo
I hit the mean streets of the Upper East Side with @dreamfornyc.bsky.social to see how voters in Cuomo Country really feel about Trump, Musk, harassing women (allegedly), and how many politicians it takes to fail New York's public schools.
Re NYC mayoral politics: the 2nd place candidate is the son of a famous filmmaker & a Columbia professor & went to private school in Manhattan. He shares the background of 90% of NYT reporters. But because his father is a post-colonial scholar there's no NYT coverage of his campaign. Wild.
I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

What makes this visual even more stunning is that it was made possible by people who said their #1 concern when voting was the economy. What idiots.
Do we deserve better? Turnout in primary elections is typically under 25%. Adams ran as the 'anti-progressive' in 2021 & won against progressive Dems by ~7K votes. More than 2M registered Dems didn't vote. If we want better leaders then we need to be better citizens & vote. It's not complicated.
The problem with people voting Republican these days is that their truth is hypocrisy.
Let's channel Kramer's ire & demand more of ourselves on the left, of Democrats, of the working class, & of all targets of Trump's policies. The largest group of eligible voters in 2025 didn't vote for Harris or Trump. They stayed home. Be angry with them. It's time everyone shows up & turns out.
ICYMI: @msfchoice.bsky.social published a @timesunion.com op-ed on my bill A2581 to establish a NYS Dept of Health Education and Outreach Program on reproductive health services. As the fed gov deletes resources we must keep New Yorkers informed of ours. www.timesunion.com/opinion/arti...

Article in the April 6, 1965 edition of the New York Times entitled, “Vote Bill Draft Attacks Poll Tax in Local Balloting”
Road to the VRA:
60 years ago today, GOP Senate minority leader Everett Dirksen and the Johnson administration release a new, broadened draft of the Voting Rights Act that would give federal courts the power to suspend state & local poll taxes if used to prevent Black voters from voting.
From 1917-1964, 28 cloture motions were introduced & it was invoked 5 times...never on a civil rights bill. Some senators, esp. from small states, opposed cloture motions on principle, viewing them as a “gag rule” to squelch debate. The 118th Senate invoked cloture 227 times. — US Senate website
"It is up to all of us to fix this. ...You may actually have to do something & possibly sacrifice a little bit. ...there is a cost to challenging the powers that be. ...each of us has to examine in our own hearts. We say we're for equality...are we going to risk something for it?" — President Obama
And it begins. We desperately need to elect strong Democrats in leadership positions in state and local governments this year so we can't fight against the coming interference in the 2026 midterms. Nothing is more important.
The United States is currently a country where you can be kidnapped by secret police and shipped off to a slave labour concentration camp without ever being charged with a crime or getting a chance to argue your case in front of a judge.
If you think it can't happen to you, why do you think that?
If you are against this then you better vote. And you better get everyone you know to vote. State and local elections happen throughout America in 2025 and we need people to elect strong leaders. Especially in Democratic primaries. People who are eligible to vote & who choose not to are THE problem,
As the #TrumpAdministration launches an assault on #CivilRights, activists can look to #CivilRightsMovement.
Coming together in solidarity to take on concerted actions for justice fuels our movements, writes @jeannetheoharis.bsky.social. Read her piece here: jacobin.com/2025/03/civi...
Focus on getting the 2/3 of Americans who don't vote consistently to vote in local, state, primary, & midterm elections. If we fail to do that then we will need a generation of activism to undo the changes Trump will cement in place. Voting is what we should be talking about. Such a simple thing.
The thing is, it's kinda clear a lot of 3rd party voters and folks who sat out were ok with all of this happening under Trump, just as long as they could humble Kamala, and folks are seething that their lives are worse and they don't even have the satisfaction of Kamala being humbled.
Trump's antisemitism agenda isn't about the Jews. I wrote about how the president and his allies are using the pretext of protecting Jews to protect their policies from criticism, while advancing an agenda that most American Jews oppose. Gift link:
Except of article in the April 5, 1965 edition of the New York Times entitled, “Congress Nears Test on Medicare and School Bill”
Road to the VRA:
60 years ago today, Congress begins a jammed week that includes not only a deadline to report the Voting Rights Act to the Senate floor, but also a Senate vote on a bill to increase funding for primary & secondary schools and House action on a bill to create Medicare & Medicaid.
Think thru 3 options for your lifestyle in retirement — your ideal, a scaled-down version that might be more realistic financially & an even less costly option...
“Plan scenarios that are all appealing,” Dr. Amabile said. “Realizing that you have a variety of enjoyable options is what’s key.”
The "real problem" is with us because voters ignored a decade of articles warning us about this. The "real problem" isn't going anywhere until (and unless) voters show up & take Congress away from Republicans. Until that happens people who are retired or soon to retire need a plan.
