Not at all liking Leslie. Too cozy with the west side fascist crowd.

A book cover with teal bands at top and bottom, with white text in the bands for the title, A Guide to Mao's China, at top and the author name, Gavin Healy, at bottom. In the middle is a artistic rendition of tourists sing and playing music outside with the Great Wall of China and mountains in the background.
Behold, #SkyStorians, the fantastic cover for the fantastic upcoming addition to the @cornellupress.bsky.social Histories and Cultures of Tourism series - "A Guide to Mao's China" by the fantastic Gavin Healy. Intrigued? Great news! You can preorder here: www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501...
The students did amazing work here. I just wish the chancellor of all people could refrain from using disability as a metaphor for weakness or fear (19:00).
Also of note, Iowa paid Chris Rufo—perhaps the leading propagandist for the current assault on higher ed, an unqualified hack and admitted fabulist—$34,000 to speak. It's embarrassing that any higher ed institution would invite him, especially when they are cutting departmental budgets.

"ICE agents will be stationed outside graduation events for the nation’s newest Marines to identify whether any of their family members are undocumented, according to the Marine Corps."
"Hegseth’s broker at Morgan Stanley contacted BlackRock in February about making a multimillion-dollar investment in the asset manager’s Defense Industrials Active ETF, the people said, shortly before the US launched military action against Tehran."
So excited to get a copy of @sayakachatani.bsky.social (with Kumhee Cho)'s new book. In sheer awe of the amazing research, incl. more than 200 interviews with members of the Zainichi/Chongryon community. I'll be moderating a book talk in June, so please join! mjha.org/event-6602790
An occasional series in which I check in on the PLACE podcast so you don’t have to!

Petition against the AI school and to instead expand the existing middle school there has over a thousand signatures. www.change.org/p/expand-lmc
It’s pretty interesting to watch PLACE careen between screaming about due process and community input and then attempt to force-feed a Google-sponsored AI high school into a building already struggling with co-location issues in under 30 days 🤔🤔🤔
NYC is planning to open a digital tech-focused high school that "would make students 'builders as well as ethical users of AI'".
Meanwhile, the City has not yet come out with an AI policy for schools themselves. Very concerning. This is a decision that communities should make.
The PLACE people are _desperate_ to make this school happen, there might be a pretty interesting story behind this!
The petition in support of the school has added 100 names over the last week, impressive
Weirdly they all came from zip codes in Astoria, Longwood, and Middle Village 🤔

PLACE takes “accelerated” learning so seriously they don’t even want cars to slow down in front of schools.
I’m so glad Silas from Kentucky is a “former” public school teacher. I’ll bet his students are too.
The city isn't playing fair when it comes to the new AI high school - mayoral control looks like a lot of shady dealing and corruption and sidelining of parent concerns!
nyccchsminorityreports.blogspot.com/2026/03/stop... Just another day of “community engagement” by the Citywide Council on High Schools, NYC’s own corrupt, segregationist school board.
PLACE NYC and its surrogates are desperately trying to make this Google AI school happen, wonder what the deal is with that!
Whatever else it may be, everything in the ed-tech "reform" sector is also, at root, a grift.
A well-rounded education program or publicly subsidized job training for Google? "The school’s academic description includes similar or identical language as found on the Google Skills website."
Manhattan High School superintendent with ties to Google wants to open Next Generation Technology High School. The school promises to “expand pathways connected to high-growth technology careers.”

french laundry exterior
I just found a 2024 charge for $1,348.03 to French Laundry - the 3 Michelin star restaurant in California - in Arizona ESA reimbursements.
At least his acting was honest work.
On a related note everyone in NYS should be contacting Governor Hochul and insisting that she opt out of this backdoor voucher scheme that gives rich people a tax write-off at the same time Head Start, Title I, IDEA, school meals, and more are threatened. Hell no nypost.com/2026/02/16/u...
You can't buy a rotisserie chicken for humans with SNAP $, but you can buy rotisserie chicken-flavored cat and dog toothpaste (last line) with Arizona ESA $.
Fitting that the paragraph starts with “eugenics” and ends with a quote from the co-founder of PLACE NYC.
