1. The first video game I can remember playing is Prince of Persia for the Apple. Both the game and the Apple belonged to an aunt's boyfriend.

Hillbilly Elegy looks like a gag in 30 Rock where Jenna is playing both roles in an attempt to win two Oscars for the same movie.
People online who are looking forward to the return of Adam Page's old theme song, I get it. But I love, love, love the theme he's used for the past few years. It's an All-Timer.
Probably gonna butcher this, but Mitch is talking about his heavy metal band.
"People either loved us or hated us. Or they thought we were okay."
Wild that people spend a little money to buy books written by obscure authors published by a small press based out of some guy’s house and then they get the books in the mail one day and read them and like them and in many cases go back to the website and order more books.
It's like, why surf the worldwide slop when you could skate for real?

Hi, Mark. Just wanted to say that I'm new to querying lit agents, and I appreciate your posts. They've helped me understand the process better.
Another day, another mountain of internet slop that's pushing me to buy (and to learn to ride) a skateboard.

Me: You know, this is their "Holiday in Cambodia"?
Dear reader, was it the flavor of Strawberry Starburst Sparkling Ice or that I said, "This (drink) slaps!" that made my partner scowl and shake her head?
Uh...Ash? But that's....that's a rough day at the office...

You read my mind, A.D. Although, for myself, I must amend number 7:
The no-budget movie adaptation of my novel that ends up in Tubi's Cult Classics, alongside Samurai Cop and Miami Connection.

Replaying Celeste and trying to get all the strawberries. Struggling on the first level, naturally. How to get what will be my 8th strawberry? Reluctantly, I look up a guide.
Oh god, oh no.
This should be my 13th strawberry.
Save and quit.
Bringing it back to gen AI, and hopefully ending on a positive note, I think the students who "get" what writing means end up "getting" how this tech is antithetical to why we write. They want something meaningful, not "efficient," and certainly not artificial.
But I hope we'll keep in mind that there are students whose faces light up when they're reminded that this demanding labor of making themselves understood is worth it because they connect with other people.
There obviously a lot more going on here re: writing being disrespected, and the value and purpose of education.
But, no, this isn't something that matters to [insert occupation here]. Only tasks that directly relate to [insert occupation here] are worth doing because only when the student's in [insert occupation here] will they finally be in The Middle Class, Where Nothing Bad Can Ever Hurt Them Again Amen.
Like how ubiquitous content just seems to appear and we don't really know who's making it and distributing it.
Besides exploring their thoughts, giving their thoughts structure, and finding language that clarified and excites, this specific assignment also prompts students to learn about memes in general, the origins of "This Is Fine" (shout out to KC Green), and potentially troubling facets of 21st C. tech.
There are still students who aren't convinced. They seem to see the value of the labor of writing to be the thing which they are asked to write. A specific rhetorical situation - say, a rhetorical analysis of the "This Is Fine" meme - and the paper they have to write. That's all there is.
Humans connecting with other humans. Who would've thought?
And I've found that when I tell students this, and when I get across that the goal is to take what's in their hearts and minds and to present THAT to another human being, so that they are understood, the majority of the students' faces light up.
Put simply, the labor of writing involves careful consideration of what one thinks, feels, and experiences, in order to convey through language those important parts of our lives.
I have no problem with students wanting to know why they're being presented with course material and why they have to complete assignments.
From the perspective of a writing teacher, from the beginning, I've encountered students who want to know why they have to take a writing course. What does writing an informative essay have to do with [insert occupation here]?
