To quote the talented @tomflood.bsky.social “courage should come from our councillors not our children.”

Grief at the death of a Peter Clark could manifest in lower speed limits, road safety funding, reevaluation of road safety design approaches, a push to reinstate cameras at prov level 1/

Fairness?? Transit fare evaders pay a bigger fine than drivers who don't pay for parking.
A one way transit fare is twice the price as weekend parking at City Hall.
Roads get widened while transit gets cut.

Autowa is not interested in making anything more fair for people outside of cars.

Or, you know, you could promote public transit to these events where drinking is commonplace.

A better budget for active transportation would keep cyclists and pedestrians safer. So would no right on reds.

On top of a $15 million loss, their own data has shown that, removal of the speed cameras made everyone immediately unsafe. Speed compliance is now under 41%. Meaning 5.9 out of 10 cars basically are saying fu to the posted speed.

Thanks Drug Ford!

Glebe parking garage vs. Nepean Costco & parking lot, for all the "my customers won't walk all the way from the garage" BIA doomers.

The only thing this city does well is half ass things.

Sad reality is that a couple of those photos would have had less cars in the 70s.

I spent less today on a full bike tune-up and chain replacement than the average driver will spend to fill their vehicle's gas tank next.

Just food for thought.
If most of your trips are less than 10km one way, you could probably ride a bike for some of those trips.
Gwan, give it a try!

I’m not in your ward, but I fully support this and any improvements to active transport. What I find frustrating, and maybe you do too, is that you need to have this info session, then engagement, and further study, etc etc etc, for what will be 450m of sidewalk. We study too much in this city.

I love how on Strava route segments can get named, and the segment with said bridge is called “A Bridge so nice they had to build it twice”

The Charles Tupper building, the brown one with yellow and blue squares, at Heron and Riverside. I just can’t, it is so ugly, I don’t get it.

Good morning Ottawa. Airport parkway at rush hour, in desperate need of widening.

I get angry in this issue of the Ward 9 Newsletter, but many residents agree that there's lots to be angry about on one particular topic. Please enjoy my Councillor's Message: A "balanced" approach #Autowa." www.seandevine.ca/march_31_202...

I want to know what the number is. What is the acceptable number of injuries and death per car movement speed. And who decided it.

There’s just something wrong with a bar advocating for people to drive to it.

I won’t be able to attend due to work, will the info be available elsewhere?

It’s sad going through newer neighbourhoods that have brand new roads and schools. The roads may have sidewalks directly in front of the school, but few connections, no cycle tracks, and few marked crossings. We can do better!

There was definitely a speed camera on Cedarview north of the intersection, I have the speed ticket to prove it 😔

So invest in road safety! You can get anywhere in this city by car, but getting places safely by active transport. The city’s priorities are clear in where its money is spent.

And yet most of the money in the TMP is for speeding vehicle movement, new roads, road widening etc. These “improvements” are typically measure in SECONDS saved. The city’s priorities are clear based on what it is willing to spend money on. I remember you having to FIGHT for a few $ for a sidewalk.

Words and condolences are important,
But you are in a leadership position. LEAD! Do something!

Excellent point and what we've been saying the whole time. The Glebe businesses will NEVER compete with Costco, Walmart, or any other strip malls in the suburbs that have a plethora of parking available.

Areas like Glebe win by being interesting to be in, and by being efficient with their space.

The weather this time of year leaves us with this sad state, but if there ever was a visual representation of the city under your leadership, there it is.

I've had nine (!) people reach out to me so far who are interested in running for Stittsville. (I'm stepping down at the end of this term.)

Here's some advice for aspiring municipal candidates:

#ottawa drivers: if you are not 100% certain that light is green, the default is you stop and proceed when you know you know you have the right of way. Just because the light is covered in snow, doesn’t mean you get to blow through.
