The implicit media consensus is that urban voters should not be able to overrule rural voters, but that rural voters should be able to overrule urban voters, an assumption so axiomatic and unquestionable that nobody even understands they're making it.

Trump continues to crater. New NBC poll has his approval down to 37-63, which is 26 points underwater.
Crucially, 50% disapprove *strongly.* Has any other president had half the country strongly disapproving?

in general, & across the world, the political gender divide really opens up around 2016
wonder if something happened then?
TRUMP: the strait is now open and we totally won the war
THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF: jesus christ dude
In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.
trumps appointees being alcoholic incompetents and trumps jan 6th supporters being pedophiles seems like something historians are going to be studying tbh
Hereās Trump bragging about making the U.S. a country that no one wants to come to and many want to leave.
Baking set to opera. Found this weirdly satisfying.
Barrera said her husband said the smell of human feces in the toilet caused a fellow detainee to vomit and, in turn, created a chain of people vomiting. She said her husband is asthmatic and has not received medication to treat his condition. The lack of medicine and the stress of the overcrowded holding cell has left him short of breath and teetering on the edge of an asthma attack, Barrera said. ICE did not immediately respond to questions on April 10 about the conditions of the Mesa or Phoenix facilities. After the publication of this article, Barrera told The Arizona Republic her husband was transferred to the ICE facility at San Luis Regional Detention Center at about midnight. The San Luis Regional Detention Center is in Southwestern Arizona and has the capacity to hold 700 people.
This is horrific. A U.S. citizen describes the facility in Arizona that her husband was brought to while he waited to be put on a deportation flight. Dozens of people were crammed into tiny cells, there was a "chain of people vomiting" from filthy toilets, no medical care, and only one meal per day.
"vote for us so we'll do these things we're not already doing even though we have the power to be doing them" is a message that requires a very enthusiastic and low-information voting base
a screenshot of the "New Bestsellers" list from Substack, with Andrew Tate in the #1 position
Hey, look at Substack promoting Andrew Tate as the #1 new bestseller. The company's amoral leadership & backers will platform anyone, even ludicrously toxic rapists & human traffickers.
i'm going to be beating my "get off substack" drum again.
because seriously: get off substack.
stop helping literal sex traffickers make money.
My god. Essential, horrifying reporting here.
Why aren't students protesting?
Disappointed, though not surprised, I began to describe various life- saving components of USAIDās global health portfolio, highlighting how we prepare for and respond to emerging pandemic threats; support the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV; and immunize millions of children from the deadliest childhood diseases. I spoke for about five minutes, focusing primarily on our infectious diseases work and hoping to keep the attention of people who seemed to have no experienceāor interestāin global health. When I finished, the room was silent, the political appointees looking at one another in what appeared to be disbelief. The silence was broken by Ken Jackson, who chuckled softly and shook his head. āWow, there really is so much that USAID does that we never knew,ā he said. āThis is the story that needs to get out there.ā Joel, also smiling, chimed in next, echoing Jacksonās amazement. āI had no idea you did all this,ā he said. āAs a Republican, when I think of what USAID does in global health, I assumed it was just, you know, abortions.ā
This is NUTS

Once in a while, Donald Trump tells the truthā¦
April 1, 2026: Trump said heās going to blame JD Vance if negotiations with Iran fail.
āIf it doesnāt happen, Iām blaming JD Vance. If it does happen, Iām taking full credit.ā
It shouldnāt be a surprise that the Trump/GOP economy is historically BAD!!! Time & time again, Republicans TRASH the American economy, with Democrats having to clean up Republicansā mess! Dems create jobs across the USA economy, are focused on the affordability crisis to lower prices, & healthcare!

We are not in the "AI era." We are in the "source: trust me, bro" era.
You know how Rome had republican institutions but in times of crisis they'd appoint a dictator with absolute power? What if we did that but we appointed our worst guy in a time of relative peace and prosperity? Now I know what you're thinking: why would we do that? Well it's to mix things up
In a shocking twist, impunity has emboldened a narcissist to descend into full megalomania
In these one party states, the governing party finds new ways to suppress citizen efforts to pursue popular policy goals on health insurance, abortion, sick leave, and pay.
