Per Dr Atul Gawande, ex USAID: “All malaria supplies protecting 53 million people, mostly children, including bed nets, diagnostics, preventive drugs, and treatments – terminated.”

There are no words that sufficiently describe this level of cruelty and sadism.

The old man and I stepped out to a Cincinnati dog-friendly pub to get some work done and to be among the living. We had a busy week of spreading good among a dark national landscape. #cavalierkingcharles #hospice #chaplain #dogsofbluesky #workingdog

Gratitude & grief can & do co-exist. Acknowledging that reality doesn’t make you ungrateful.

That Christian conservatives cited & linked supposed “death panels” to the dems in 09…but now 15 years later, with this incoming administration, there’s actually real danger for vulnerable populations. How long before we see low income elderly & disabled people taken out for the sake of cost? #faith

I can’t read it. Every day I encounter the poor and discarded in rehab and longterm care facilities. Disabled & elderly alike. They live in near squalor. Warehoused. Forgotten. Only the wealthy or those w/ familial safety nets can escape this fate. I am faced w/knowing it could be me someday.

In my early Christian days, when anxiety & fear stalked me, these were verses of shame and reinforced by those around me. Nineties evangelicalism was not always kind…or wise.

So hard anytime… but especially around the holidays. Prayed for you this morning.

I am puzzled by the DNA evidence. With today’s tech, no answers? Perhaps the genetic database can help?

I have work to do in reconciling my faith and call with this new administration, and the friends & family who helped ushered it in. Chalk art littered the hospital garage during the first wave. Hope is louder! #palliativecare #faith

I still reel from the pandemic. I believe the virus was an evil force, a separate entity—stealing breath, isolating, stoking fear, dividing communities, mowing down the most disenfranchised. I’m forever haunted & inspired by those I cared for. And now this…a new beast coming to the U.S. in Jan.

It would be his last birthday at nearly a century old. My patient was surrounded by family & friends, but he preferred to feed his good friend doggy ice cream. He delighted in Vinny in his last months of life. #cavakierkingcharles #therapydog #hospice #blueskydogs

What a beautiful boy! I love the bday hat. Vinny will be three December 1. Where does the time go? We’re getting a brother or sister in May. We need a spicy pup. The two of us have become like an old married couple.

Here’s the first time I laid eyes on baby Vinny, in my breeder’s truck—it was love at first sight. My breeder has bred cavies for 30 years, initially for show, now for the health & legacy of the breed. She picked him out specifically for therapy work. But any dog that loves people can do this work.♥️

Go for it! Fairly easy to get certified. Makes such a difference. Normal into the abnormal. My last pup served as the palliative care dog at Rush Med in Chicago. But I join you in hoping the world doesn’t crash & burn. 😬
