Too long for full alt text, the gist is that genre fans have "a limited frame of reference" to genre work. Fans try to link things in Babylon 5 to Lord of the Rings, but JMS was thinking about Orpheus. Or more broadly, that genre works have broad and deep inspirations, in ancient, classical, and medieval stories, themselves that genre fans are ignorant of.
