Fritz’s performance rang through me, especially when he sang, “It comes and goes in waves / it always does.” This poem is about that: things coming and going in waves. Recovery and healing not being linear.

In 2022, the same night Fritz Hager performed Waves by Dean Lewis for his Top 24 performance, my therapist said to me, “I think you have an eating disorder.” I came downstairs after my Zoom therapy session to my mom watching Fritz performing on American Idol.
