Where U.S. science has been hit hardest after Trump’s first year The Trump administration has slashed the number of grants from the National Institutes of Health, with far fewer focused on women, cancer and mental health.

The WH seeks to cut the #NIH budget. The number of competitive grants awarded has been reduced by half.

These include grants for cancer & Alzheimer's research. Early career scientists have been affected the most.

The number of grants mentioning "women" declined in 2025.
