We are back, soon!
The secrets of bacterial cell envelopes' our free online seminar series is due to resume in January 2026 after a long break.
Hosted by Georgina Benn and Syma Khalid- supported by the Microbiology Society. More details soon.

Thank you @narjournal.bsky.social and reviewers, and thank you team @hendersonlab.bsky.social @weinehue.bsky.social Brian forde and Matt Hemm, and Jack Bryant who was there from the beginning
I think there's a LOT more that can be done through transposon mutagenesis to query a genome through editing your transposon!
Like all high throughout screens we got some unusual results too, the biology of which is still to be explored ('nested' genes??)
Some of these small genes are conserved and/or neighbouring well chracterised genes. Highlights that small genes/proteins are still overlooked.
Clearly more unannotated coding potential within E. coli. Interesting to see what different methods do and don't identify.
We did this in E. coli and identified some new small proteins, validated by western blot.
Out yesterday. Using a translation reporter on a mini-tn5 transposon, and high freq. mutagenesis, we looked at translation on whole genome scale independently of genome annotation. academic.oup.com/nar/article/...
Happily representing @multidefence.bsky.social at the #EESMicrobiology in Heidelberg!
Come to my poster if interested in prophage-mediated phage defence!
Also don't miss @emgoodall.bsky.social's talk today, and @alekseiagapov.bsky.social and @davvi36.bsky.social posters!
Me showing off my poster
Made it to Heidelberg for #EESMicrobiology @events.embl.org!
Find me at poster 240 and make to check out @annaolina.bsky.social & @alekseiagapov.bsky.social 's posters and @emgoodall.bsky.social 's talk to see everyone from the lab 😁
Home sweet home! After an excellent time with @hendersonlab.bsky.social in Aus! I have finally returned to the UK and started a postdoc position this week with the van Houte lab at @uniofexeteresi.bsky.social with some fun research to come
Two ERC-funded postdoc positions available in the team - one here and second to follow - please repost! jobs.ncl.ac.uk/job/Newcastl...
This has been a long journey, but it's now out in final form. @kjamali.bsky.social

The BASEL collection of E. coli #phages is limited by its host strain. @humollidorentina.bsky.social @damienpiel.bsky.social @aharms485.bsky.social &co use a modified host to add 36 new phages, revealing roles of O-antigen in recognition & R-M systems in immunity @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4jirGvX
