Loved our visits, even during refurb when we saw the inside of the focus box with the feeds, PAs and the VLNAs.

Agreed. Curved are a real pain for me. Much prefer my flat screen.
I’ve put the Martlesham 13cm beacon GB3MHZ on test from my home QTH in JO02pa90 2320.830MHz
Q65 30B
Beaming mostly west, but can move the antenna (low gain yagi) on request
Haven’t posted for a while.
The Martlesham 23 and 3cm beacons have been refurbished and re-installed.
Both now run Q65 digital modulation. 30B on 23cm and 30D on 3cm. These different modes chosen to suit the dominant propagation on each band.
At least some not delivered in East Anglia yet. Patchy.
I use a thick ‘rubble sack’ as they last a little longer. My Brabantia bin inner is reaching the end of its use due to cracking. It was, however, a great radome. Now just used occasionally.
I also ‘booted’ my 23cm EME system a few days ago. Worked several new # and several old friends.
System needs an upgrade. Don’t they always? 🤭
I think they have improved. I have several generations of Baofengs and each has been an improvement on the last.
I did my own harmonic and other measurements on my single sample mini.
The harmonics on mine were marginal but were acceptable.
The power output was a little under 5W on 2m and over on 70 cm.
Receive sensitivity was comparable my TH6A
Deviation on narrow was 2kHz peak and 5kHz on high.
I have the Nagoya 771 antenna, but it is a bit unwieldy with the 5R mini.
He has programmed in over 400 channels for us. Cambhams is one of them.
One of our group has been buying batches of the minis to hand out to the group (at cost).
It is truly remarkable what you get in that little radio for the cost.
🤗
I had one thrust into my hand as I walked past the equipment table. Saved buying anything on Saturday!
🤨
Thank you, Phil. I have missed GU, on 10m , a few times. It is just that awkward distance from here. It’s a bit far for tropo on 10m and just too short for much else!
I have a Casio programmable that I bought off G4HUP in about 1978, when he was upgrading. I recall I paid him £25 for it. That was a lot in those days!
We were both GPO/Post Office Telephones radio school instructors. Many ex radio staff benefitted from numbers on this calculator! Still my 'go to'.
I think one of the advantages is that it is a good way to learn about some aspects of the Arduino (if you want to) or just go straight to setting it up as a beacon or whatever using RFZero manager. It is simple to change parameters to your own requirements.
I hope that explained it?
Bo and the gang are extremely helpful to those wanting to set up an RFZero based beacon.
There are a lot of RFZero based beacons around the world now!
Best Google it, Simon. Lots of information and explained far better than I could manage
This week’s project is working with my newly acquired RFZero to create a replacement 24GHz beacon for Martlesham (or Felixstowe).
One poor soul collapsed at the finish. Medical help was immediately at hand. In 14000 riders it was the only med emergency seen. Pretty fit riders.
Thanks to everyone who donated/supported her. She completed in 5hr 30min. Total of 54 miles.
Her funding stood at £500 and then there was a small flurry of additional sponsorship after John posted.
It’s still not too late to add some more to a very worthwhile cause. British Heart Foundation.
Sat on Brighton sea front, drinking coffee and waiting for my daughter to complete the London to Brighton cycle ride ( For the British Heart Foundation).
Got mine as well. 23cm EME. The long way round!
Sadly, not a patch in what it used to be.
Great opportunity to meet ‘old’ friends, though, so worth the long trek over.
Looks like I should keep the 23cm EME feed in the dish for several more days as G4RFR may be QRV on Wednesday.
Showing how marginal it was, it took three days to work HD8G on 23cm EME. As the moon moved closer, so degradation came down just enough to complete. My thanks to Bruce for persevering.
Good to see you today and have the 803 described in such detail. Thanks Peter.
Are ‘deep dunnies’ included. For the benefit of our Aussie friends, of course!
