I have a father and mother in law in Iran. I have a sister in law. A niece. She's 14. She likes silly pink headbands and purses and dresses, just like kids her age all over the world. There are 93 million people like her in Iran. People who do all the normal mundane life things as the rest of us.

It was the top comment on a podcast about Iran this morning and I let out one of the longest sighs I have ever sighed. It’s also weirdly the exact same annoying people who were calling it a QAnon conspiracy theory 2 years ago??

Moving a couple of times in a short period totally converted me to the ebooks and a library card lifestyle.

Yes, I want to make a quilted jacket, but I felt conflicted about destroying 7 perfectly wearable shirts to do it.

Is it better to upcycle or donate clothing?

I have a bunch of button up shirts in good condition. They don’t fit me anymore and the fit isn’t trendy. Is it better for me to cut them up and quilt them into something new or donate them?

Please, let’s trade climates for a week! It’s already 90 here and I’m too hot to finish knitting my sweater vest!

Israel Is Banning the 'Last Foreign Witnesses' to Its Genocide in Gaza In a likely deadly move, the Israeli government told 37 foreign aid groups, including Doctors Without Borders, they could no longer operate in Palestine. Where is the outrage?

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

Remember when Tony Dokoupil told Ta-Nehisi Coates on the Morning News that his book that humanized and empathized with Palestinians belonged in a terrorist’s backpack? I do.

My First Amendment professor told us on the first day of class that pornographers and Jehovah’s Witnesses were the real heroes of the First Amendment.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

We are a rogue state, run by a dictator, and the international community should treat us as such including all appropriate economic and diplomatic sanctions

I know in Spanish cultures your children usually inherit the first surname of each parent. I guess I’m wondering what you do if you hyphenate primarily for “fight the patriarchy” reasons??

How do second generation hyphenated names work? Like if you were born into a family with a hyphenated surname, and then you got married and had children, and wanted to continue the tradition of hyphenating, which name(s) do you drop?

A navy blue sweatshirt with the outline of a humpback whale embroidered at the collar, a sperm whale on one arm, and a narwhal and beluga whale on the other arm. All the embroidery is very light blue.

I recently went on a trip where I decided embroidering whales on a sweatshirt was the perfect thing to do on the plane. #embroidery

I’ve looked into it a bit and it’s about $600 to get started. So maybe needle-felting in the meantime.

It was Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland. Certainly not my usual whimsical historical romance 😅

Just finished one of those books where you try and get anyone and everyone in your life to also read it, so you have someone to talk to about it.

On the plus side, I’m not even a little bit addicted to Bluesky the way I was to Twitter *because* my feed is a ghost town. 😂 I will definitely check out the Craftiverse feed!

What crafty little hobbies are we all getting into to distract ourselves from the existential dread?

the kimmel thing is bad but as long as they arent rounding people up indiscriminately based on race, building concentration camps and talking about eradicating those they deem sexual deviants, i think we’ll be ok

A white and brown spotted cow jumping over a purple moon. There is also a small yellow star. The whole thing is made out of beads.

My first bead embroidery project is done! It was a lot of trial and error, picking out beads and trying again. The cow looks nothing like I initially wanted it to and the star was a last minute decision. But I still like it!
