We’re close to 1,000 signatures—help us get there. It will be hand-delivered to Texas A&M leadership and the Board of Regents on Monday. Every signature matters—add your name today and share broadly before we deliver it:

Beto O’Rourke was on Texas A&M College Station campus today, and we had a brief conversation about our upcoming rally and its message. He agreed to help amplify our April 20 Academic Freedom Rally and the work we’re doing. He’s a true Texas icon.

TAMU Civil Discourse Symposium:
An observation from Janet Dudding (TX HD 14)
“Interesting choice of speakers:
TX-28 Henry Cuellar, federally indicted & among Trump’s 1800 pardons……

“Pro: Not a politician. Years of leadership experience at TAMU
Con: No academic experience. Never taught students, spent time in a lab or produced research
Will she support the goals of a higher ed institution or continue to remake TAMU into a high school?”
— Leonard Bright, TAMU AAUP President
Greg Abbott & his billionaire backers are waging culture wars at Texas universities, but @texasaaup.bsky.social & @aft.org members are fighting back!
Higher education isn’t some political pawn – it’s many Texans' path to a better life. That’s why union members stand together for academic freedom!📚✊
“They tried to weaken higher education, but instead they built a movement to fight for the future...
They can attack our institutions, but they cannot stop our movement….We will not stop until we have the higher education system and the democracy we all deserve.”
— Todd Wolfson, AAUP President
On April 20, @TAMU will spend up to $800K on a Mike Pence “Civil Discourse” event—while my Ethics course was canceled for discussing race & gender. You can’t have a dialogue while silencing faculty expertise. Real character tells the truth when it’s inconvenient.
April 20, 3 PM — Rudder Fountain.
Great to have @rweingarten.bsky.social and @proftwolf.bsky.social in Austin for the launch of AAUP/AFT’s new platform! Pictured here with Texas AFT’s @zephcapo.bsky.social (left) and @drleonardbright.bsky.social of the @tamu-aaup.bsky.social
Texas’ War on Academic Freedom: What’s at Stake for Our Students?
“From banning Plato to firing faculty, Texas A&M is ground zero for political attacks on academic freedom.“

"Students should be free to make up their own mind, but in order to be free to do so, they must be exposed to different ideas. We can't just expose them to conservative ideology approved by the board of regents or the governor of Texas."
— Martin Peterson, Texas A&M AAUP
🔔Texas’s 2023 anti-DEI law SB17 was a harbinger of the dismantling of DEI across the country.
This week the Chronicle has tracked attacks + rollbacks on DEI policies and programs at NYU, Yale, Rutgers + the University of Illinois system.
What is happening in TX now is headed for your state next.

First Plato—now Dr. Peterson—out the door at Texas A&M!
Who’s next?
Here is Dr. Peterson’s letter of resignation, which he just shared with the faculty.
Public university professors in Texas say a new law restricts their academic freedom

I agree. That comment says it all.
My take on Texas A&M’s Bush School Civil Discourse Symposium:
Hard to see this as anything but political theater. You can’t promote “civil discourse” while restricting curriculum and sidelining faculty.
Real dialogue requires academic freedom.
Join us April 20, 3pm, Rudder Plaza.

You can’t promote “civil discourse” while silencing discussions of race and gender.
That’s not dialogue—that’s censorship.

No ICE.
No war.
No Kings. #nokings
We do not have kings in this country.
My ethics course was canceled for teaching race & gender.
This is about control vs inquiry. Fear vs truth.
They can’t silence us. It won’t happen.

Thank you to the Brazos Valley Alliance for the opportunity to discuss the importance of academic freedom and the harm caused by Texas A&M Board of Regents censorship policies. Unfortunately, Texas A&M declined to participate.

The Texas A&M Board of Regents’ claim that they are simply following the will of taxpayers to censor topics on race overlooks a fundamental reality: I am a Black man and a taxpayer, and I do not support the use of my public funds against me, my interests, or my values.
Correction: Indoctrination IS happening at UT.
It's just the Board of Regents that's doing it.
TAMU BOR Chair Albritton’s dismissal of Jon Hagler’s defense of academic freedom as merely ‘his opinion’ ignores an obvious reality: his commitment to Texas A&M is measured not just in words, but in millions of dollars invested in the university’s future.

Texas A&M donors are speaking out. They do not support censorship and political interference in the classroom!
Despite the deep confusion on campus among students, faculty, and staff, the Texas A&M Board of Regents continues to repeat its narrative that its embrace of political interference in the classroom is proceeding smoothly and with minimal impact.
Their Jedi mind trick is not working on anyone!
