Prince and Guided by Voices will always be my musical north stars.

I half-jokingly describe my music as what the former would sound like on the latter’s budget.

I cannot ever deny or understate the impact that his music has had on my life.

I wish I could’ve seen him live even once.

Prince was the reason why I taught myself how to play piano, guitar, bass and drums; the reason why I refused to allow myself to be boxed in by genre, race, gender, sexuality, etc.

I never wanted to live the way he lived *personally*, but I always wanted to do what he did *musically*.

Today (April 21st) marks a decade since the death of Prince, my biggest musical hero.

I cried every day for six months after he died; it took a few more years for me to stop crying about it.

Hearing and reading the liner notes of “Sign o’ the Times” when I was six made me want to be a musician.

What we lost when we lost Self magazine The almost 50-year-old publication was a lifeline for chronically ill readers.

After Condé Nast's decision to close SELF, I spoke to chronically ill women about what the women's health site meant to them.

"We have to acknowledge chronic illness as a politically, culturally, and socially marginalized category"

Wow thank you so much Donna!

You know so well the joyful discovery of what a new "instrument" can bring! It was thrilling to charm this music from my first try at violin.

Hibiscus tea is /excellent/. It tastes good, and it makes me feel cute, thinking of sloths eating hibiscus flowers because to them, it's candy.

one of the reasons I ditched Spotify for Deezer is because Deezer started identifying and tagging this crap a while back. the bar's still in the center of the earth but some services are at least somewhere in the lithosphere.

Doors In The Labyrinth - Below & Above (Low Cover) Live YouTube video by DoorsInTheLabyrinth

this is something we have in common!

as an aside, I posted this a while ago, not sure if you saw it. I played a show the day after Mimi passed, so did this cover. Not great performance, but heartfelt, I think

People tend to view religions and religious activities through a metaphysical lens, but these happenings are as material as anything else and the embrace of Christian Nationalism has less to do with "revelation" than a need by fascists to find some cult that legitimizes their violence.

The Christian Nationalist Schism: Fascist Religion at the End of Empire The fight between MAGA and the pope is a preview of something much larger and more dangerous

MAGA has always been a cult, but the fight with the Pope represents something much larger taking place.

Christian Nationalism is settling into place as a post-Trump religious movement that supports neo-fascist brutality at the end of American Empire.

For me, the question of dating comes down to capacity, and this capacity is determined by a hierarchy.

The hierarchy is, roughly, as follows:

1) Can I show up for my children?

2) Can I show up for myself?

3) Can I show up for my friends?

4) Can I show up for a romantic partner?
