I need to subscribe to the Atlantic, don’t I? I keep seeing interesting articles from them that I can’t read past the first two paragraphs.

It’s like Watergate, only in this version Nixon directly mails the tapes to Woodward and Bernstein

So I think the first part of your message gets at the problem- it’s a bear to read, and I think people get hung up on tools they read about in the first 6 chapters or so (since that’s as far as they read)… IMO the ideas later on give context for the tools but people mostly give up before that

A diagram labelled pride versioning

A version number of 2.7.123 is shown

A line pointing to the 2 describes it as “proud version, bump when you are proud of the release”

A line pointing to the 7 calls it “default version. Just normal/okay releases”

A line pointing to the 123 calls it the “shame versions. bump when fixing things too embarrassing to admit”

I have the feeling a lot of them still don’t know what’s really happening yet. I think they just heard a few DEI folks got fired, and I guess Ukraine is bad now? (A very weird, thin slice of what’s going on)

I’m not going to say that certain processes are stupid and basically encourage this. See? I didn’t say it.

Yes, you can actually check if your shot is still effective by getting your titers checked, but just re-upping your shot takes 10 minutes, and you can do it while you’re out picking up snacks. And this is a low side-effects shot.

FYI, Walgreens is perfectly happy to give you a measles vaccination for free (it’s covered by insurance) if you’re feeling a little worried your vaccinations from when you were a kid might not be effective anymore and you’re near an outbreak.

Well guess that shows how into sports I was. If there wasn’t someone in my hall who did said sport or a relevant stadium that blocked my route to a cafeteria I basically didn’t know about it!

Eh, it’s the trip back you have to worry about, another week of destruction will have happened by then! (have you considered an ocean liner for your return?)

OMG there’s a fire, this lighter fluid seems like a good way to put it out!!

I mean it’s still an excuse to throw a bunch of garbage snacks in the air fryer and calling that dinner. Now excuse me, I think I still have a few cheese sticks that need eating…

Tingling enough that I’m avoiding using certain words online that might get me flagged when I refer to current happenings

Not just that, seems … particularly reminiscent of a certain 30s/40s era political party

Wut? Taking over the Kennedy Center? I think I gotta go set up a bunker. Somehow that just might be the scariest thing yet

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

Yeah that would be great if they were trying to actually quickly solve actual problems -“hey, let’s try lots of different novel approaches to solve poverty! (Some may not work, but we’ll adapt and pivot)”. They are just moving fast to TRY to break as much as possible.

People are really, really good at not seeing what they don’t want to see. I suspect they are not-seeing as hard as they can. “Maybe he was just excited and throwing his arms around? You are always seeing stuff that’s not there!”
