Another thought. Why would anyone build a data center in the US anymore? Like, you import your new Nvidia chips and get slapped with tariffs - or you import them to say Canada or the UK, build the data centers there and avoid the tariffs.

It's being said that Trump is using tariffs to cause uncertainty in the market to drive investors to safer investments like bonds, driving down yields, so the Fed will lower interest rates so Trump can refinance 9.2 trillion in debt with a much better rate. I feel like this is playing Russian roulette with 5 of the 6 chambers loaded. In a recession interest rates are generally reduced to increase borrowing and spending. During periods of inflation interest rates go up to slow borrowing and spending. These tariffs will likely increase inflation and possibly lead to a, or contribute to a recession meaning we have stagflation. So what happens then to interest rates? Typically during stagflation interest rates rise. In the 1970s stagflation caused by the oil shocks lead to a huge increase in rates, peaking at 20% in 1980. If these tariffs cause stagflation or just inflation alone rates will rise and Trump will not get his deal on refinancing the 9.2 trillion at a reduced rate. If we get recession alone rates will fall and Trump will get a better refinancing deal but at what costs? Cause a recession to save a few hundred billion in interest payments? Retirees have already had trillions wiped from their 401ks. I honestly don't see a way out of this that benefits America.
