People complaining about the city spending money to reopen after a blizzard have it wrong.

The economic output created by reopening New York within a day is in the billions. Usually, this place is hobbled by snow for a week. Not this time, and that benefits everyone.

We are beset challenges, ranging from an affordability crisis, mega-corporations trying to squeeze every penny from working people, tech giants using our personal data against us and an unprecedented assault on democracy by our own government.

Trump and the MAGA Republicans are a symptom of a deeper problem, the loss of faith in our democratic system and its ability to deliver for regular people.

Some might say that this is a safe blue seat in Lower Manhattan. Or that a local assembly race can’t really impact the big picture. I think that is a dangerous perspective. Every single elected official is critical, especially now.

This is a momentous election

For the first time in 35 years, Assembly District 66 will have an open seat. It’s an opportunity not just to elect a new generation of leadership, but to decide how we want to shape our politics, our government and our democracy with this seat.

Unfortunately for Trump, the history of Stonewall is the exact same as the United States - protest against injustice and fighting for equality. A history that shows victory for those who strive for the values of a pluralistic democracy over and over again. 2/2

Today the Trump administration removed the pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument.

In ways large and small this government is bending over backward to hide the people of this country that it dislikes in our nation's story. 1/2

Given the current political environment, the performance of our Democratic leadership, the state of our country, this is an important Convention.

The Gov, in particular, is key to the State Committee. As a Democrat in the highest State office they are the titular head of the Party, and the Party operates largely how they want. This in addition to their role pushing the Dem policies meant to make life better for NYers.

Anyone winning 25%+ of the vote gets on the Primary ballot without petitioning, saving time and hundreds of thousands of $. It’s a huge benefit for those who get it, especially if their opponents do not.

There are contested races for Governor and Comptroller.

Off to Syracuse for the Democratic State Convention.

State Committee Members like myself are elected to represent Democratic Primary voters at events like these.

The ICE protest at Foley Square today was incredible. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many people there.

So, we keep the pressure going and we don’t stop even if, on the surface, it looks like something is changing.

Whenever they pull back, we don’t pause, we move forward.

Resistance is not meaningless, but it must persist.

They will replace him with someone just as bad, but the fact that they had to replace him says something about the pressure Trump is under.
