how fucking DARE you want to not participate in it"

Mechanics and story are both important parts in a video game, but somehow people want to skip the former and vilify those who want to skip the latter.

For Expedition 33 especially, it was the first time I felt the story really get in my way of enjoying gameplay. And you can even argue exploration skipping is an accessibility mode for people who get motion sickness. But when I bring this up, people go like "well exploration is the POINT!

Somehow, in a genre born out of mechanical execution, people now frame as moral imperative that no kind of mechanical skill be demanded from a player. Yet the story - the part that came after - is viewed as a sacrosanct thing that everyone must participate in, and those who don't are soulless husks.

‪See, I have no issue - and even support - optional game modes that let people just read the story.

But somehow whenever I bring up how I want faster cutscenes or exploration skipping to just let me fight the section boss, I get exclusively yelled at by people saying I'm desecrating the game.

from my experience with Gamestop refurbished items - those drifty controllers you trade in are going straight back onto the shelf, sold to another customer for the same price as a fully functional used one :) :) :)

Pen sketch of Chaos up against a window, like in the Sickos meme. They are saying “most interesting”
Selene is in the upper left corner of the window where the moon would usually be depicted, looking concerned.

People always get incredulous when I said Hollow Knight feels very samey until I point out that most of its biomes are reskins of the same set of hitboxes.

And then some of them turn around to disparage Ori for having overly superficial biome differences.. 🤷‍♀️ bruhs Ori has a full diving area..

If you're against leopards eating the faces of everyone except one group of people who should juuuust let those leopards eat one ear, come on it's just one ear, then you're closer to the side of the leopards than the people, and *should* be thrown to them actually.

Please ignore all the comments telling you to use some other streaming service and just support artists by buying direct. Phone storage is dirt cheap compared to the last decade.

crap TONS of people still parade their spotify wrapped while posting about generative AI art theft.

Because theft that they benefit from isn't theft I guess.

3 months ago 0 0 0 0

digital art creators also "don't have to" put their artworks on all those image sharing sites that feed their works into generative AI models. Doesn't mean we can't criticize those platforms for being shitty.

3 months ago 0 0 1 0

and a disturbingly amount of people who say that are also going "stop using generative AI!!! support hashtag human artists!!!"

ie "I only care about the subsection of artists who are hip and trendy to care about. Don't make me question other oppressive systems that I'm too used to supporting."

fwiw I spent most of my Expedition 33 playthrough thinking "this should have been in the Octopath art style".

Also win art direction over Hades 2 which had all custom and manually created art+icons for early access placeholders

yeah but they just quietly swept it under the rug instead of having a company figurehead go online to antagonize their audience

that grid actually gave me an optical illusion of being all wobbly when viewed from the side xD

you don't even need players, phone storage is dirt cheap compared to last decade. 128 GB is more than enough.

- in people who use services that they deem "bad enough", like starbucks, generative AI or harry potter. Suddenly it flips from "every ounce of oxygen you give it is a crime" to "well it's just so convenient! ahahaha".

For heavens' sake, Just. Stop. Streaming.
Buy from small artists you want to directly support and get the rest for free.

It's just embarrassing to hear liberals use the "it's so convenient"/"I'm too entrenched in this" excuse, that they themselves love to deride -

As a casual pianist I hate it here, because 88 is also the standard number of keys on the piano. Like cool one more fun number I can never openly use
