The desperate campaign to push AI down our throats is just what Nestlé did with baby formula, or Monsanto with patended seeds.
Manufactured Intermediation—inserting a corporate tollbooth into a process that used to be self-sustaining, using a low initial barrier to entry to destroy the alternative.

really bizarre framing here because what on earth do you mean "inconvenience." in a worst-case scenario you place a disc or tiny tape inside a little player and press play. if it's an mp3 player all you do is press a button. that's inconvenient? even their tech reporting has an ideological slant
does bluesky have downtime because of vibecoding? hmm, unlikely. is it funny that bluesky seems to have more downtime the more smug and defensive their devs get about how great vibecoding is? extremely so
One of the biggest labor battles in the US is happening right now in Los Angeles, at USC, where our faculty-union campaign with majority support is being met by nasty, corporate-grade administrative resistance, and national press won't cover it.
It's the kind of mistake you would make when you read a term once and assumed you knew what it meant, rather than putting in the effort to understand it. Pretty darn ironic in this context.
The best part is, this post that's all about technical purity has a weird technical inaccuracy in it. She mentions "IRQ levels" a couple of times when she means just "IRQs"; IRQ _level_ is the name of a concept in the Windows NT kernels, it doesn't appear at all in the DOS systems being fetishized.
Everyone here is overly familiar with the Nazi bar analogy. If 8 people at the bar are "doing fine" and 2 people are destitute and suffering then you live in a society of destitution and suffering.

But this, of course, is not "violence." But if one of the workers decided to vandalize or sabotage the machinery to force it to stop, now THAT would be violence.
zackeryatlas 12h The degradation of society: 1. Celebrating the k!lling of a CEO 2. Cheering on warehouse arsons 3. Making heroes out of people who attempt political violence You can be outraged at the system and still not glorify violence. These aren't wins. This is a society losing its moral compass. [Coming from a liberal btw]
I don’t know how people keep forgetting that workers rights were entirely written in blood and the capital class had to be threatened with violence before they agreed to things like 8 hour working days and 2 day weekends.
Worth re-posting the below thread 'cos I've seen a few folk wonder recently if it's even worth starting to transition if you end up a woman with size 11 feet, or a guy with size 6. or might end up not all that curvy 30-28-30. Or you might be a six ft plus woman or five-two guy...
they like him and want to help him. They send out a push alert not for the actual story "the president is losing his fucking mind" but one repeating Trump's false criticism of the Pope as if they are reasonable.
One last point: When governments talk about "age verification," they also mean "identity verification"
So even if you're 55 years old, you will be virtually carded and all your social media activity will be linked to your identity. That means no online anonymity and raises privacy issues for adults
We need more praise for the Luddites
This is why I get mad annoyed at ppl who adamantly refuse to believe that Democrats aren’t actively complicit and are equally part of the problem. They are always more concerned about their own backsides so they can sit cushy and do absolutely nothing of worth beyond accruing power for its own sake
Fun fact! There's a whole community dedicated to jailbreaking and modding kindles. You don't need to settle for this.

ok so you criminalize drug use in public then evict people for using drugs, what are they gonna do then, just fucking die?
App stores should be illegal
"To put it bluntly, an X post today receives less than 3% of the views a single tweet delivered seven years ago."
If you think it is necessary to be on Twitter to communicate your fact-based worldview, the reality is that worldview is being smothered.
The white flag, aka the official flag of the Confederacy
Wishing you and yours a very merry Confederate Surrender Day.
bought a cheap no-name CompactFlash card that Amazon was selling as new, and quickly found that the seller had formatted but not wiped it, so I can see traces of the Huawei router firmware it stored in the previous life it obviously had.
I'm not mad at all, I just think that's really really funny.
An extremely funny thing about retro rereleases that use unlicensed emulators is that you are basically committing the exact same crime (using software outside of the terms of its license) that has you so scared of downloading roms in the first place but now someone has monetized it.
the problem I have in Dishonored specifically is that "being mean" looks exactly the same as just not being very good at the game. so in trying to react to you being mean, the game is also making itself harder in response to the player being bad at it. the ending in particular becomes just _brutal_.
Until you stop sacrificing the rights of others, eventually they'll come for yours.
I mean… yeah. Have you heard literally anything out of his mouth?
It's not over in Minneapolis! It's not over in Minnesota! ICE is still here, even if they're quieter and using somewhat different tactics.
BTW the people who spent the last few years advocating for Palestine were clearly 100% right that normalizing war crimes and genocide there would just increase the likelihood of inhumane actions elsewhere. Just saying.
