@celiasgregory.bsky.social Wedding Bell Blues made my morning. I was thinking how Laura Nyro wrote some great songs and then you mentioned her! Two songs later: RATM. You might be my fav DJ ever!

I missed posting for Sky King anniversary a couple days ago but today’s as good as any… In a world where people love to act like they have all the answers, here’s to the guy who wasn’t afraid to admit he didn’t have any! Thank you, Richard Russel.

My first concert was The Moody Blues at Edwin Warner Park for the 1993 hot air balloon fest. A year or two later The Fifth Dimension headlined and I was uninterested. I can’t begin to tell you now how much I wish I’d seen that show. While they may be the cheesiest band I like, T5D absolutely slay.
I had a dream Carol and I were in Murfreesboro. We were driving the old Aerostar around with tags that expired in 1999. Matt Mahaffey ran a club and creative co-op out of an old industrial building. It was filled with a mix of musicians and visual artists and people out for an evening drink. I saw Josh Moore there. Julia from The Foxies gave me a CD of some music she was working on and I tried to return the favor from like 1000 different Anchor Thieves CDs I had in the back of the van, but by the time I’d assembled a small stack she wasn’t interested. 😂
Jesus didn’t say turn the other cheek because he wanted us to be weak. He knew de-escalation was the only way humans would outlive their differences. The gospel of love is a survival guide. In it you can substitute life for love, or vice versa, but the point is the same: Humans divided will die!
I’m doing shows with Shrine these days. Come hang out if’n ya want. #nashville #livemusic #shoegaze
But I’ll never forget it, or him. I felt like I did a good thing giving him a ride, but being around Buzz was its own reward - something I appreciate more now than I did then. RIP #BuzzBlack
The conversation continued sporadicly between pauses to appreciate the strength of the storm, as we set there barely 50 feet from his front door. It took nearly 15 minutes for the wind and rain to start to settle down. That was the last time I talked to Buzz. I moved away a few months later.
He didn’t want to brave the downpour and back then without weather radar on a smartphone all you could do was wait and see what happened. Over the next few minutes the wind picked up and it started to hail such that I believed a funnel cloud might appear at any moment.
I’d never seen his home so I patiently followed his directions as I started to wonder how long this might take. Just about the time we hit his driveway, the bottom fell out.
The conversation was never dull when talking with Buzz. He came across as curious and humble even though he seemed to know everything under the sun, at least as far as Sumner County was concerned. Well, we passed my house and proceeded up the ridge with plenty of lightning flashing behind us.
I gave Buzz a ride one night in 1998. I was coming home from a DQ shift in Gallatin. He was only a mile or so out of town and it was threatening rain. He recognized me immediately, told me my phone number, my family members’ names, and their phone numbers before we settled into conversation.
Lol. Same.
“I’m not interested in reading something that nobody said.”
Nobody with any sense expects those people to be silent or civil - hence the asymmetry.
Yes! IMO, we could all benefit from less news consumption and more creativity or self-work in its place.
Man, these sets are just great. New bands. Some familiar stuff. And always cuts I’ve never heard from artists I like. Thanks for posting to mixcloud. And long live terrestrial radio!
Jeff Bezos sucks t-shirt
It was partly your mentions of this band over the years that got me to listen.
There now appears to be a non-zero chance I’ll see REM in my lifetime.

“The adult human brain today contains about a disposable spoon’s worth of plastic — roughly 50 percent more than eight years ago.”
This is a great summary of research to date. Sorry if you can’t get around the paywall. NYmag does great work. #plasticispoison
Wow. What a tune. I hadn’t spun it since last year & didn’t know that one by name. It’s heartbreaking. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to be not only draft eligible, but likely to be drafted. Like a death sentence hanging over your 18th bday. And now I read there’s even more to that tune
Congrats, man! I missed this announcement at first and have spent a considerable portion of today wondering why is Stephen on leave?
1729 really surprised me.
Good stuff.
Yeah, what a talent! “The First Time…” is so hauntingly beautiful, so delicate. And it’s not even her best known track.
I “believe” Elmo, Bannon, and the rest, but I don’t think most Trump voters are bad people (eg Nazis) - just ignorant and easily manipulated.
With everything going on and needing a distraction that makes me feel good, I’m wearing this one out. It’s like Sugar + Foo Fighters + Beach Boys. 🎧 #rock
the world I think it made an important difference in how they voted. But I’m still synthesizing a lot of stuff and it’s all hindsight anyway. Mainly, I need more reasons to believe everyone who voted for Trump isn’t an anti-democracy Russia-loving misogynist Nazi.
in what words we use and how very small minorities are treated than whether the average person has the opportunity and resources to get ahead in life. That’s a really reductive thing to say and I know that reality is much more complex but in terms of how a lot of middle/working class voters see
