heartless!
the set has some undoubtedly good and interesting cards, but i've yet to see them be interesting in an actual game i have played in
you got it exactly right and also this is what it looks like when we record
Image made in the game "Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts" where you make illuminated manuscripts. It has the poem read at the end of Shelved by Genre episodes in a frame. It also has bookshelves, several items vaguely depicting things from various units of the show. Behind and above the bookshelves, in the center of the frame, is the "Genre Friend", who is dutifully putting books back on the shelves. It's not a good image and I'm not good at describing it I'm afraid.
@rangedtouch.bsky.social I made you something for #ShelvedbyGenre in Scriptorium. It's not very good, but it was fun to make. I hope I transcribed the poem correctly, English is not my first language and I couldn't find it written down anywhere.
got seven wins with this and i gotta tell you that im not sure this is a very good draft set
Very happy to reveal that Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector has been nominated for a 🚀Hugo! 🚀
I grew up reading Hugo winners and nominees, and many previously nominated and awarded books are among my biggest inspirations! www.thehugoawards.org/hugo-history...
This week I'm joined by @austinwalker.bsky.social to discuss his (and my) obsession with Marathon, his upcoming TTRPG (an actual book!), Pragmata, the new Jay & Silent Bob game (?), Call of Duty leaving Game Pass, and more. Get it ad-free at jeff.zone or find the video version here.
me when im making the hobbit
Transgressive extreme violence in Child of God and some pornographic novels read through Bataille
If someone is coming around to serve you the same anecdotes and Men’s Health article claims from my own childhood, and there’s no surprising information there, nothing interesting about the way we are as people: it’s just ideology. It’s just serving you yesterday’s hamburger as meat loaf.
I have somehow (mostly accidentally) spent the last 20 years in classrooms that discuss gender a lot, including teaching a lot of these classes, and the thing about real research on people and gender is: it’s constantly surprising. There are no norms, just cultural beliefs about norms.
I have similarly been fascinated by Galloway’s pivot to masculinity expert and have watched a lot of him talking about it and I think that the strangest thing about it is how about 50% of what he says is indistinguishable from forums-level evopsych derived from first principles.
he seemed like a cool guy
Amazing curbside find.
I work at Kotaku now! :)
You can go watch back today's KFGD to hear me talk about it a little if you want. You could also read my alma mater @gibiz.bsky.social to learn more! www.gamesindustry.biz/kotaku-hires...
The cover of a black and white zine on a green textured paper background. In the background are carabiners, a headlamp, a journal, rope, and a map. The cover of the zine has the title Underneath and a large etching style illustration of a narrow cave chamber. A natural fountain springs up from the rock floor. Statues of dragons and lions and weird dogs all spit water across the chamber into each other's mouths intersecting with the single stream of water erupting from the natural fountain.
The cover of the game zine We Shall Be Monsters. The title is in an embellished black letter font in white over a black background with a low contrast image of a doctor standing over a dead body on a slab. The zine is displayed on textured paper with a silk handkerchief and a small saw next to it.
I am beyond thrilled to announce that TWO of my games have been nominated for Indie Groundbreaker Awards!
Underneath for Best Rules
&
We Shall Be Monsters for Best Writing
Honoured to be nominated alongside so many great games and peers!

neat thing about the czechoslovak socialist coat of arms. they changed the shape of the escutcheon from a typical knightly shield to an infantryman's pavise, to pay homage to the proto-communist hussites.
A brief respite from vacation posting to show off a very fun illustration @thenazavr.bsky.social and I cooked up for “swords without masters” - sword and planet style adventure with some Corben-inspired color work!
Actually I guess all three of those early Le Guin novels — mind speech!

Painting of an armored woman, with flowing long hair, and a flaming sword, her green robe has a floral print
Painting of an elden ring character in Drake armor with a dragon wing cape
Painting of a bat helmed knight in green armor, holding a Lance with a banner in front of a burning field
Painting of a tall statue-esque elf with straight blonde hair carrying an olive branch and a candle
I need work. You need art. Comms open. 🖤🗡️🌻
Modern game developers are competing with everything: Netflix, TikTok, YouTube, streamers, etc. Short games slot into people’s lives more easily than long games, but players might worry they’re not getting enough bang for their buck. It’s a dilemma. @ekanaut.bsky.social explains:
Thanks so much to @chasecarter.bsky.social & @newmadras.bsky.social for having us on the Rascal Radio Hour to talk indepth about Realis! Listen in for insights on mechanical choices, design, publishing, & crowdfunding philosophies, and @austinwalker.bsky.social & my hopes for the future of the game.
NEW: A PR company is operating a bizarre fake news site that's plagiarizing original journalism at a massive scale -- all while spewing misinformation, publishing hallucinated quotes, and replacing real people’s names with “Jane Doe.”
Also: it misquotes the Pope.

ah yeah I think that’s exactly what I’m thinking of
Digital illustration of Saruman inside his tower, wearing a rainbow glitter bucket hat, backpack and robe. He is holding up an exercise book containing rainbow stickers, drawings of rings and scribbles of his name with a magic S. A speech bubble reads, “The white page may be overwritten!”
listen to Shelved By Genre and you too can be consumed with thoughts of Lisa Frank Saruman @rangedtouch.bsky.social
