July 13, 1985 was Live Aid — but also on that day Depeche Mode headlined a festival in France (despite what this ad indicates). This is just one of the many things I am learning from reading “Depeche Mode Live” by Dennis Burmeister and Sascha Lange.
Love this one

No. 10: Stripped, Depeche Mode
Released in 1986, this was the first single off "Black Celebration" (reached No. 4 in West Germany). While I love the video, it features an edited version of the song. Sounds better on the album.

Look what I found at the Main Library in Vienna? This 420-page German book is by the same authors who wrote “Monument” in 2013 and “Behind the Wall: Depeche Mode Fankultur in der DDR” in 2018. It is packed with photos of the band, tour passes, posters, ads and more.
My Google Translate is ready!
Love it!

No. 11: Clocks, Coldplay
Released in late 2002 in the US, this won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 2004 over some serious competition: "Crazy in Love," "Where is the Love?," "Lose Yourself" and "Hey Ya!" Another Grammy snub?

Interesting choice. And I'd say the answer to your question is no -- since Vince was the driving force in the early days. Martin, however, would have found a way to success I think.
Love it!

Thanks for this one! Never heard it before. Jeff Lynne is a genius.
Thank you for this! This American now living in Vienna never heard it before. They are such a fun group! I admit I immediately thought of "The Sun and the Rainfall," the best song on Depeche Mode's second album, "A Broken Frame." If you haven't heard that one, it's worth a listen.
