My aim with this piece is to banish shame in autistic people, so we can all talk about things like this openly - about our strengths, our struggles, and the way even "supports" fail us in an ableist society. I hope writing like this makes other autistic people feel less alone.

This new article is from a very deep, sad part of me. I wrote this article months and months ago for autism awareness month (April) but it's only just been published. This article is about sex, relationships, social expectations, and trying and failing to get help.

I explain how sexism and ableism are why, as a 31-year-old autistic woman asking for psychosexual therapy, pelvic floor physiotherapy, and a hearing aid, I was denied all three and offered speech therapy and a support worker instead.

"Choice and control: but for who?"

Honoured to have been approached by Advocacy For Inclusion to write an article for the summer '24 ed. of the Canberra Disability Review.💖🏖️
This article is a vulnerable meditation on the way gender and ableism intersect within the NDIS.
