We’re delighted that you’re interested in the book! Unfortunately, the publication date has been delayed; it’s now likely to be spring 2027.
Cover of "Paul Dolnstein and His Sketchbook: The Soldiering Experience of an Early Landsknecht, 1490–1505" edited by Danielle Mead Skjelver, Casper J. van Dijk, and Stefan Krause.
Text reading: "Dolnstein offers a unique idiosyncratic insight into the emergence and experiences of the famous mercenaries, the Landsknecht. Earlier scholarship on Landsknechts can be divided into three traditions: (1) the German, (2) the International, and (3) the Art Historical. The German school examines the Landsknecht as a novel military development and focuses on how the Landsknecht came to be, how they were organized and what military tactics they introduced. The International tradition is less extensive and is primarily concentrated on how Landsknechts were part of a larger military development. Art history examines the Landsknecht as a theme in sixteenth-century art and how they have been used as a symbol to signify death or despair. This volume will further aid the examination of the early Landsknecht (1490–1505) by bringing insights from all three traditions together, through the eyes of a single historical individual."
Coming soon to our Studies in Medieval and Early Modern Culture series: "Paul Dolnstein and His Sketchbook: The Soldiering Experience of an Early Landsknecht, 1490–1505," edited by Danielle Mead Skjelver, Casper J. van Dijk, and Stegan Krause!

Cover of: "Gaming the Medieval English Text: 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight' and the Cotton Nero A X/2 Manuscript" by Julie Nelson Couch and Kimberly K. Bell.
Text reading: This book innovatively combines traditional manuscript study with contemporary cultural game theory to show how the fourteenth-century Middle English romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight launches a multidimensional game with its late-fourteenth-century elite reader in its unique manuscript context, London, British Library, Cotton MS Nero A X/2. The textual and visual games of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the Cotton Nero manuscript allow a fourteenth-century English Christian aristocracy to align courtly gaming with heavenly goals, thereby justifying elite amusements.
Our next title focuses on games and game theory! "Gaming the Medieval English Text: 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight' and the Cotton Nero A X/2 Manuscript" by Julie Nelson Couch and Kimberly K. Bell is a fantastic addition to any library.
New this year: PBB (Beiträge zur Geschichte der deutschen Sprache und Literatur) joins the list! 🎉
